Good letter Sean. Not all down to the politicians though, they are pandering to an electorate which is more concerned about flags than people.

I attended a state school and by no stretch of the imagination could it have been described as neutral. In a divided society any school whose intake comes almost exclusively from one community can never be neutral. Surely a compromise can be reached where out children are taught together for everything except religion. The churches could be given access to school facilities to provide additional doctrinal lessons as required by parents.

I don't think there is any problem having faith based schools in a normal society. Unfortunately at the minute segregated education helps maintain bigotry on both sides. This is no criticism of the teachers/schools, it simply reflects the separation of our children into two camps.

OK Rosie, my apologies for misunderstanding your point and for the unfriendly nature of my response.

Let's blame everything on people on benefits - makes a change from the blacks/Jews/Irish - stop and think about how high unemployment would go without the public sector not to mention the impact on those of us in the private sector who rely on public sector services. Will more widespread poverty help to settle things down?
