Wouldn't you also want your children to go out and make their own opinions of the world and their faith or non-faith? You didn't follow in your parents' religion, so it would seem to make sense to allow your kids to make their own decisions as they grow. It's fine to tell them what you believe, but the issue with indoctrination is forcing them to believe your belief system is the only right one.

Any faith based belief is reliant on early indoctrination. Its worst enemy is education and the individual's rational thinking. As long as a person is given the proper opportunity to see the world at large, to consider all facts and not to be isolated from other points of view and allowed to expand their mind, there's more chance to break those chains. At the very least, it will allow them to accept that another person is allowed to not believe in their brand of deity.

The sad thing is that people in concentrated religious communities aren't even given room to ask "Why?" or are told they have to make do with "Because it's how it's done". Especially for children, who aren't being taught to think critically by asking "Why".

I thought this was going to be a literal post about daylight - when I'm at work, I see a total of one hour's worth, if I'm lucky XD

Still, loving the image and the sentiment.

I personally love the holiday season, but since I was a child, I never associated Christmas with Jesus or religion (probably because my predominantly Muslim family were careful with omitting that aspect of Christmas from the celebrations; my non-religious father instead focussing more on the importance of family, which I think is a better message).

People have asked me when I still identified as a Muslim why I celebrated Christmas and say "Merry Christmas". Simply put, I don't see Jesus being the "Reason for the Season". Rather, I prefer putting my very real family and friends in the centre than some imaginary man-god.
