Failure to promote personal responsibility is just another way to hinder true freedom. The longer we allow negative behaviors to continue without consequence, the longer we keep humans chained. Negative behaviors call for negative consequences - positive behaviors and individual responsibility will always provide happiness and freedom. So, quit school, say screw the neighborhood, don't take advantage of a free education, be a major negative impact on the lowest common denominator, believe you are entitled to the fruits of the labors of others, and do whatever the hell you want to do - and to hell with everyone else. What happens when EVERYONE decides to stop succeeding?
Which brings me to the final description of a Gen-Waahher.
I do not want to work - so you will pay for me to live. If you choose not to, I will take it from you. Since I didn't take advantage of the free education offered in this great country, I cannot find a job that allows me to live like a movie, rap, tv, sports, rock, religious star, so the rich are responsible for me and anyone I choose to create. The Gen-Waahhhers truly believe that because you have earned wealth - no matter how you earned it - they are entitled to a portion. ENTITLED, Dammit!
These folks love to bitch and moan about the bad schools/teachers/police officers/council persons, but will walk ten miles to avoid voting. They also love to tell the news anchor how the school has let them down, creates a negative educational environment, and is full of mean teachers, but again would rather watch television than attend a PTA meeting - hell, they won't even make the kids get up to make it to school on time. They just don't get a bad school is only bad because the majority of Gen-Waahhh parents refuse to get involved in a positive manner. Give 'em an education - just don't expect them to work for it.
I am writing about anyone who believes they are not responsible for their own life because, well... it's not their fault. For too long we have made excuses for pregnant teens and the irresponsible boys who planted the seed, for Americans who choose not to graduate from a FREE secondary school system, for those physically and mentally capable of working that choose not to, and for those who believe it is the responsibility of others to support them from delivery until the grave is covered. Welcome to the Legacy of Generation Waahhh.I could tell you that I am not responsible for my behavior because my Father died when I was two, I lived in one of the most dangerous areas in Chicago, was dirt poor, abused, paralyzed in an accident, and abandoned by the only woman I ever loved. Everything there is true except for the part about not being responsible for my behaviors. But instead of using the negative life experiences as an excuse, they became my motivation to succeed, to achieve, to grow, learn, and serve. I hold a Doctorate in Psychology and have dedicated my life to treating individuals suffering from addictive disorders.
Another characteristic for the Gen-Waahhhers is their vigilant apathy.
While my sanity may be called in to question, I ask only that you read a newspaper or listen to your favorite 24 hour news station. There you will find story upon story identifying some circumstance where an individual or group has, by their actions, caused a particular outcome for which they will fight to the mild discomfort that "it is not my fault." The following is a list of "reasons" given to reject accountability: "I had a bad childhood", "I only drink because you cry", "The devil and/or god made me do it", "I grew up in a bad neighborhood", "I was extremely poor/rich", "I was only arrested because I am white, black, Hispanic, Irish, Jewish, Muslim, Catholic, male, female, gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, trans-gender". You are part of Generation Waahhh if you go through life with the firm belief that you can engage in any behavior you choose without consequence.
