This makes me feel waaaaaaay too old for The Toast. My first concert was The Beatles.
Y'all know that the actor character Hoffman played in Tootsie, the guy who got fired all the time because he would argue with the directors and the other actors about his character's motivations, was based on Hoffman himself, right?
And also, "You Were Always on My Mind": yeah, baby, I treated you shabbily, refused to give you support when you needed it, let you know that anything else was more important than you, but that doesn't mean I didn't love you.
I went to high school with the sister of John Hartford, who wrote this song. He was tremendously funny, but, I think, he really was that guy.
It might be that the reward for prayer is being able to face those things with equanimity. I think life happens, and I don't think the divine intercedes in it much-if-at-all. And since life is going to happen anyway, those are great gifts.
I want a spinoff, in which Mail Robot goes off on its own, like Breq in Ancillary Justice, and avenges Martha.
Yes, your work right now is to recover your equilibrium, and to be close to colleagues, friends, and family as they recover theirs. I went through this in NYC on/after 9/11, and I can tell you that you will recover, but only after mourning a lot. Love the people you are with.
He felt that his childhood had been exploited. He wrote an autobiography about it. (Which, ya know, no one would have wanted to read if he hadn't been the kid in the books, so it was all a bit confused.)
Then there was A.A. Milne. His son Christopher never quite forgave him for Christopher Robin.
Oh, I think he wants to be President like anything! I just think he's afraid it would be career suicide to run this year, when the chances of his party splitting up are fairly high. Next election, once he can come in as the savior of a newly refined (in all senses) Republican Party, I expect him to be right in the thick of things.
