I really wish we could convince people to do that. I work with a guy to coughs and sneezes into his hands and picks his nose! He never washes his hands :(

It's not a typo. A detective explained it to me about 10 years ago. I don't remember the exact conversation so I'm not sure I can explain it clearly. It has to do with the fact that they have probable cause to believe he committed the murders, but there may be different ways he could have been involved. Since there are six murder charges and two murder victims, they probably have three different scenarios on how he was involved. For example, he may have made the bomb, but not placed or detonated it; he may not have made the bomb, but he may have placed it; or he may not have made or placed it, but may have detonated it. My explanation may not make sense, but the charges do make sense if you understand the reason behind the number of charges.

After the case goes to Grand Jury, the probable cause charges will be dismissed and he will then be charged with new charges from the indictment - even if they are the exact same charges he was originally arrested for. That is assuming the Grand Jury indicts him.

None of the investigators I worked with for 20+ years were under extreme pressure to make an arrest. Your argument about DNA is one of the reasons they don't arrest someone just to make an arrest. Again, because it's one of their own, they're looking for the real suspect - not a scapegoat.

Without knowing the reason for the arrest, how do you know it was quick? Do you know if he confessed or turned himself in? Do you know if he bragged to someone and they turned him in? Or do you think the police planted evidence on him so they could clear this case?

When you say the cops "have blinders on" are you implying they will arrest anybody they think they can pin it on? Since cops were killed it actually gives the investigators even more incentive to arrest the right person. Why would they want to arrest just anybody when the "cop killer" is still out there?

The FEDs are involved - both the FBI and the ATF. With a multi-agency investigation they usually appoint one person or a small group of people as a point of contact for the media.

And just because they are local does't mean they are "yokels". Every investigator working this case understands the significance and if they thought you needed to be worried about your ATM they would tell you. They also understand that there are certain investigation details you just don't release at this stage of the investigation.

The car is not a crime scene. The blood in the car (if there is any) isn't evidence. I do agree though that it would have been nice to arrest the tow driver for being such a jerk.

They emailed KATU to tell them the error had been fixed. The story doesn't say how the station found out about the story to begin with.

Sounds exactly like Washing Mutual though - they made a mistake and then made the customer make the phone calls to straighten it out :(
