Brandt: I realize that the nuclear powered USS Ronald Reagan made it to the coast of Fukushima to try to provide an alternative power source 20 minutes too late and that many suffered the consequences of radiation exposure. That rescue mission would have been enormously helpful, had it worked, though I don't think nuclear power plants and nuclear powered aircraft carriers should exist in the first place. I know there are a lot of well-intentioned, patriotic people who do good public service work in the military but the damage outweighs the good. I respect the soldier, but not the weapons or the war.

I totally agree with everything you said. The rational response is to demand single payer national health insurance and take the obscene profits out of pharmaceutical drugs. Money is not the only thing that motivates people. Look at Cuba's achievements in biotechnology.

I think that's a very real issue. Peter said that Bernie Sanders is trying to have Hep C declared a national emergency and regulate costs, but I put my faith in Dr. Jill Stein, the Green Party's presidential candidate. No she will not win this election, but neither will Bernie Sanders. It's about movement building for a better society that puts people above profit.
