I doubt few people bent the cover genre as hard as Izzy.

At least you called me 'baby'. That made my day. :) And Wikiepedia/Forbes backs you up...

"According to the 2010 Forbes International Billionaire List, Oprah Winfrey with a net worth of $2.4 billion is the richest black person in the world,[1][2] and was once the world's only black billionaire.[3] Close behind is South African gold magnate Patrice Motsepe with $2.3 billion and Nigeria's Aliko Dangote with $2.1 billion. Dangote and Motsepe are the first black Africans to ever appear on the Forbes international rich list,[4] however, Mobutu, the former Congolese president, and Sani Abacha, the Nigerian military leader, were probably billionaires when they were alive but Forbes could never confirm this (according to Forbes magazine's Kerry Dolan)."

i'm not gonna get into a JFK conspiracy discussion (they never end), but the feds raided Oswald's house and confronted him with the photo of him and the rifle. unlike today, it took a while for the photo to leak...

His wife's name is Marina, not Marie. My bad.

T.S. Eliot is my favorite poet, and I actually enjoy many of the books on this list. :)

I really like your description about making a connection with Pound's verse. I've never had that pleasure with Pound ("I mate with my free kind?") , but I do get those 'lightning bolt' experiences reading Eliot's "The Hollow Men", my favorite poem.

And to your other point, I never 'formally' studied Eliot, which I why I probably enjoy him so much. It is a little more rewarding when there's not an exam staring you in the face...

civil disobedience and freedom of expression--go for it! just don't punish someone for wearing what is acceptable clothing for fear of offense.

interesting points, but people are starving now. this is food that could be eaten now by people who are starving now. yes, some gm crops could be planted, but most of the donated food is ready for direct consumption. we can't afford to be picky--there's not enough to go around.

but to my original question: you accused me of an anti-environment bias. can you please tell me where you got that impression? which posts/lists gave you that idea?

Regards,

Jay

I believe the school could have found a solution instead of the courts, which took things WAY too far, and decided to legislate for everybody. There are several bathrooms in any school (teacher's lounge, nurses's office, etc.) where a transgendered child could go without making anyone, male or female, uncomfortable.

But eliminating ALL gender distinctions will have unintended consequences that I don't think are fully thought out, and we need to see what the solutions are before they would be imposed. There is a strong potential for abuse or distraction, and many people will be made uncomfortable without ever having a say in the matter.

But you want a PC litmus test. Here it is. You're a kid, for Chrissake. You're 12 and you don't know what the hell you are yet. If you were born a boy, look like a boy, but feel you're female, use the boy's bathroom. The converse also applies. Until you are an adult and can work through this very adult decision, stick with how you were born out of consideration for others. Or work with the school to use a separate bathroom. The whole world doesn't have to go unisex just to accommodate you.

Do the Japanese and Indian education systems worry about this? No. They do MATH.

In the comments section yes, but not when you submit a list. The text editor there is as bare bones as it gets. No formatting at all.

Still...very funny, OOuchan. Touche.

I remember that! Checked Wikipedia (I know, I know...I'm tired ) and it says it was the 1992 world series where the US Marine Color Guard hung the Canadian flag upside down during the national anthem. (Just once I'd like it to not be the US screwing up like this, but....)

I do remember that the next day some guy made t-shirts of the canadian maple leaf upside down with "Sorry, Eh?" on it. Funny, and the Canadians saw it for the honest mistake it was. Embarrassing, but honest.
