This is an incredibly enlightening article on how government policies have shaped virtually the entire structure of the housing market as it exists today. Thank you Mr. French!

Oh, give me a break. Whenever someone finds something disagreeable in society, they immediately call on the government to fix it. Let's remember something: businesses exist to serve the customer. While the intentions of business owners may be to make profits, they can only do so by serving the customer. If they're making profits, it means consumers prefer the product that company is selling relative to the alternatives.

You write that Taco Bell's food quality will only go up if the USDA improves its regulations of processed meat. But that is not true. In fact, you proved it yourself when you wrote that,

"Using less actual meat in recipes surely costs less, but at the expense of food quality and the trust and health of customers."

If TB looses the trust of its customers, how well do you think they'll be doing on the market? And if they're doing okay right now, what does that tell you?

I don't eat at TB because I find it disgusting. But if other people like it, who am I to call for "lawsuits" and more regulation?

"Aside from rape and infidelity, a person’s bedroom activities have no bearing on his or her character."

I would strongly disagree with this. The person who sleeps around- be it a man or a women- is not displaying good, moral character. Most people recognize this. The sexual carelessness of people within Hollywood is certainly one of the reasons no normal, sane parent would hold these people up to their children as good, moral examples.

We're all familiar with the typical college "bro"- the guy who can't wait for the parties to start so he can start having sex with as many women as possible. That, to my mind, isn't a person who respects women. That person's whole point is to use women to achieve sexual satisfaction. That is a character flaw.

So one's sexual activities do- or should- reflect on one's character.

Glad I'm not alone in this whole first time baby-sitting thing! Although I think my situation is a bit easier to deal with than yours...

You need to let us go to the park again. I had a blast at the park.

I saw that last sentence coming a mile away. Because nothing says tolerance like encouraging the very activity you're supposedly condemning. How about...let's not burn anything? Let's use words like adults.

This is way late, I realize, but your book reviews are always good (especially non-fiction) and I like philosophizing, so there ya go.
