Maurilio Amorim : Are We Creating a Better Version of Ourselves Online?

I'm a what you see is what you get kind of girl. I DO general post my most tolerable pics as profile pics... but I also post random- real me pics etc all the time. However- my target audience is "real moms" and one of my main messages is: being real, is better than being perfect. I think it depends on your purpose for utilizing social media. That said- I have met people that I could barely recognize from their online personna. I find that annoying and uncomfortable/awkward.

Maurilio Amorim : Is Self Promotion Evil?

Agreed- it may or may not be. I am more likely to promote ideas to engage in dialog- not so much promote my self... When I focus on promoting an idea.. and a message...that's relevant and necessary... I don't feel like I'm so close to the line of evil demarcation.....(evil line of demarcation? Whatever, you know what I mean.) However- there ARE days wen its all about me..writing is fun and getting laughs makes me feel great....and when people like what I write- i feel like they like ME. Fortunately- I have people who love me enough to let me know when I'm crossing that line:)

agree. also a huge issue is creating a restrictive social media policy after a social media catastrophe. I've watched it happen- it throws the baby out with the bath water. Accountability? Absolutely. Every employee needs to know that their "social media footprints" could be CSI investigated at any moment. If you shouldn't say it- post it do it don't. But, for pete's sake if someone DOES- don't steal the potential connection/ revenue/ brand awareness/ ministry our from under those who don't. (it's possible this is a touchy issue for me at the moment. )

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : A near life experience.

it's so hard to stand on the outside-- watching and waiting while the heart beats and the blood drains... I'm in that place currently- and I don't know what the outcome will be for a friend...I also don't know what it SHOULD be... but I'll say this.. it's hard to watch. necessary sometimes- but hard to watch. Also hard to know when to stop the bleeding or do CPR or just wait.... yeah this could be slightly relevant to me right now.

we go currently go to: life church (so as not to be confused for the dead church down the road- only zombies go there. but it falls under the good stuff or double noun category. Previously went to metro-south- yup- a GPS church and NorthRidge- definitely an LLBean church before that: Tri-city Christian Center (now known as: connections ) apparently I love the GPS thing....

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : What do you do for a living?

for a living? hmmm my life's work is to encourage and equip moms to make a better world. I'm a free-lance writer, speaker and leader of women... don't make a living at it...but I make a pretty good life of it:) (I have worked as a volunteer with MOPS International for almost 20 years- formerly served as a pastoral counselor specializing in children/ women and teens...(also- volunteer) officially: I am a Mom. ) I live in Canton, Michigan:)

Maurilio Amorim : Can a Purple Cow Endure?

purple cows need frequent color changes. Like my hair. If we do the same things- the same ways we blend into the background. If we change EVERYTHING we lose brand identity. That sucks. It's in finding the balance in just enough change that we maintain out stand-out-ness and brand at the same time. A change of color without a change of cut, in hair terms. A change of topic, but not style- in writing talk. A change of market space, not product in mktg.....

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Twitter.

hee.... oh snap.. I may have... I tweeted CV for a few reasons... 1) to build connections that last outside of the CV. ( we held a tweet up- so moms who ve been tweeting prior to CV were able to get a face to face. ) 2) Tweeting (and posting to FB via tweets) helps me remember/respond to things I learned- also opens up real time dialog about the same. I do take notes , but honestly? cannot always read them. 3) Part of my job as a MOPS Field Leader is to help build excitement and connection before, during and after CV...;) So, I was working... kind of;) 4) to share the experience to those who couldn't go... However- I admit-- I worried about those who WANTED to go, but couldn't.. I've watched event tweets and got my jealous on... and felt left out.. didn't want to make anyone else feel the same.. For the most part- I didn't tweet during sessions.. (helps that I didn't have signal) I tweeted in between, an tried to keep my tweet/disruption to those around me to a minimum. ;) Cover phone etc... As for missing the CV due to tweets.. well that didn't happen for me, but I could see how you could become distracted... kind of like the difference between being IN the moment and being behind a camera lens.. capturing the moment.. good points;)

Hilarious.. and then there's me.. I'm the one sweating like a race-horse in fear I'll slow things down. I start when the first note rings out.. and race to beat the basket. probably because I'm also the one, whom when it's my day for offering duty, feels like it's a personal failure if my rows finish out of sync. The unspoken communication between ushers, (whatever you call them at your church) is a language unto it's own.. Where do we learn this language? No clue.. but we all speak it: The raised eyebrow/nod that means "go ahead- I'll catch at this end and double back"... the slight frown that means: "I'd write it for him if I could but I can't so just know it's not ME slowing things down..." The slight tip of the head that questions "Did that go IN or out? " the lexicon continues... and so does the offering... which I suppose is good. besides.. maybe mr slow to cash out is giving someone else time to respond to God... or not. :)

Mary DeMuth : Breathing is Better than Kicking

1) How were we both at MOPS convention, and I didn't know? Must be that I was scheduled to work workshops..all day:( 2) I've been struggling with a stress fracture/knee injury, and while I was in the same pool.. I realized there was no pain when I was floating... breathing.. not kicking... it's the same with God.. my physical and emotional pains become manageable... when I slow down to breathe. beautiful, resonant post. thnx.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Building benches instead of frisbees.

Why? Because I'm afraid. I'm afraid if it's fun, I'll enjoy it. If I enjoy it, I'l start to worship it. If I worship it, I'll lose it. also- there is this guilt that goes with some of what God's calling me to. See, I'm NOT a behind the scenes kind of girl. Sure I do stuff behind the scenes, but what gets me going is writing, speaking, talking to and connecting with people. I love it. I just came back from a convention.. where I did all of the above. I was in my element. And conflicted. See- good Christian women, crap- good Christians, period. Don't seek the spotlight. Seeking the spotlight is implied pride. Writing means I think I have something to say. Speaking means I want to be heard. If I hated it.. I'd get holy bonus points- if I love it? I get judged. I'm coming to peace with my calling. I can't let my fear of sin or my fear of judgment by other christians stop me... but I can let it make me sensitive, and I can allow others to keep me in line.. IF I choose who I listen to, carefully. Yes, once again you hit a nerve... I don't know where these things come from... but, I want to let them go! Thnx for shining a light on them for me... I don't WANT to build benches.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Trying to find a new church.

we were part of a church for a bazillion years (at least)in leadership blah blah... and then had to find a new church... I actually giggled a few times when people were trying to "get us saved" it was interesting to be a "visitor" after being in leadership. I'm trying to remember that experience and bring it with me where we land. Treating visitors like they just got off a plane from the wild african plains and have never worn shoes before is NOT being missional... justsayin. be friendly, not weird.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Arguing about the faith of U2.

U2 was my playlist for this morning's run... waiting for a verdict to see if calories are all I burned today.... (kidding) Love U2. Is it a "christian band? dunno if there is such a thing. This is what I DO know... truth is truth- regardless. I find truth (yes biblical truth) in much of their music and in many of Bono's spoken words. I don't need to label them. I'll leave that to god.. the truth is- he judges hearts- not bands. :)
