Exactly! No motives, just friendship... they pick up the rest on their own. That God would even use me to revel HImself and His love blows my mind.

Julie - wow. You are someone I would like. I have been "unfriended" by (pent-up) Christian friends because I have unintentionally (yet then intentionally) set out to be friends with others outside the church (my Jeremys).

I've made friends with Atheists, Wiccans (who I often think really want to be Jesus-Followers but just can't get over 'Christians'), and Church-Hurt folk. The kindest, most amazing and affirming, compliment I ever received about my Christian faith came from one of these 'outsider' friends.

I get a little hot-under-the-collar when Christians want to stay in the safety of a Christian bubble... There has got to be balance, and we've got to be unafraid... My 2¢

Purgatory - don't tell me it's not real. It's not some place we go to after we die. It is, it's the here and now. It's where we fell into after Eden. It's the waiting, it's the place between really bad and really good, it's not knowing the outcome. It's the painful process of change. It's the place where gold and diamonds are being formed. It's the rough. It's the place where we start to understand that peace "that surpasses understanding" and where wisdom is learned.
Getting to gold hurts.

# 6 - BUI, that is classic! Nice, very nice. (dang, I really wanted to make the "very" BUIed, but I'm just not html-ish on an early Monday morning)

Honestly, I leave my phone in my car because:
1) I would be too tempted to use it while at church, as you've described;
2) I'm absolutley FULL OF FEAR that regardless of how many times I check my phone to be on vibrate or silent, it WILL go off with my ridiculous ringtone during the most serious parts of the service. It would ba a God thing, and I'm just not willing to chance it - or get the pastor stink eye.

Totally reminds me of a plaque in my parents home:

The Lord giveth you two ends;
one for sitting and one for thinking.
Your success depends on which you use;
Heads you win, tails you loose.

"I like a church full of the "same kind" of Christians as me." AMEN!!! Although I bet it would become boring, I'd have nothing to complain about, I’d never be challenging myself to face my own convictions, and WORSE - nothing to blog about...

I think we should only hold a firm ground on the important [Christian] stuff; who Jesus is, that God is the one true God, that we are saved by faith and not by works. The church shouldn’t become divided and pit against each other on all the other details that we get so up-in-arms about, like The Shack and other issues too numerous to even get started with here. If only we could just keep referring back to Paul’s wise advice at the beginning of Romans 14.
