I don't know that reporters are left of center so much as this profession attracts people with liberal views. But it's one and the same I suppose. And I agree that the tendency is to be skeptical of conservative narratives to the point of hyperbole, such as the Donald Trump overreaction.

I know that some people enjoy ascribing the media's penchant for buying into PR gimmicks as evidence it's some sort of conspiracy, i.e., the "media party." But the simpler answer is that they're just intellectually lazy and go with whatever will make the most eyeballs bleed. Reporters are paid far too little to give a shit about what benefits who or how it plays into the grander political arena. It's true, however, that many reporters openly boast about how moist the PM gets their panties, although you may need to be speaking with them in private to get that admission.
