"Actually, I can’t recall any circumstance in which murder is justified."

I think that your non-belief allows you to see the simple truth of that statement, and conversely, ppl's belief often clouds them from seeing it. Non-believers don't shoot people because of their non-belief, or fly planes into buildings, or storm embassies. Nor do we respond with violence when somebody says or films something that we find offensive.

Thanks for your post =)

The National Post--certainly not a personal favourite, but nonetheless--is reporting that, all told, "the federal government expects to rack up nearly $110-billion in debt due to deficits from the current fiscal year through to 2015-16..."

Listen. I'm just sayin'. So ya find $1 billion from the 2008 budget. You don't have to burn through it. On sports and entertainment. I'm just sayin'. We as a country MIGHT consider not approaching our finances like a 15-year-old who just got hold of their parents' credit card and wants a new game console.

Nice to see you back on the blogosphere, Mr. F.

I find it sad that despite the serious academic and democratic implications of scrapping the longform, and despite my suspicions that Jim Flaherty punches quantitative and financial data into a slot machine at Casino du Lac-Leamy to make gov't policy, the public and learned elite shall soon forget this debacle and move on to such matters as: Lindsay Lohan.

Consider the "HOT TOPICS" headers currently gracing the Macleans site: Census; Conrad Black; New GG; Justin Bieber; Omar Khadr; Oil Spill.

I rest my case.

I guess technically Iggy was referring to Mike Pearson's gov't in '66 taking Tommy's Saskatchewan achievement and making it national. Though I completely agree with you that this is poor form and an example of taking credit where credit is not due.

Hmm, I don't think anyone is perturbed by SH's personal grooming choices, or that he doesn't eat nightly a caviar-encrusted arugula fajita while wearing marmot-skin sneakers. It's fine that he wants to be an "everyman." I think what people object to are hypocritical statements, i.e. not letting the taxpayers know where their money is being spent whilst casting himself as the PM who is all about gov't accountability and transparency. If Conservative funds are used to pay for a psychic, or a DJ for the PMO, or an in-house artist who sculpts things out of bitumen oil, I don't mind/care. But when I'm footing part of the bill, I think I have a right to know.

Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm old enough to remember the Rockford Files, but I think first base now requires an unlimited texting plan, while second base requires an iPhone and a low self-esteem. I think that's how it works now. There might also be a Jonas Brother involved...

I thought Michael Ignatieff died like two years ago? Huh, that's WEIRD. In that context, I guess it was a pretty good speech then. Although you could see the rigor mortis setting in around the platitudes, non sequiturs and patriotic reacharounds. You know, I've never had a reacharound from a dead guy before. Can't say I really liked it. I guess the Grits are hoping we are sufficiently desperate for some lovin', since our current boyfriend is captain of the abstinence club (incidentally, I think that's where he met Rona and Helena).
