This is an amazing list. I don't believe most conspiracy theories, but it is fascinating to find out the science behind the theories - given a very open mind you can understand why even some of the most inane theories gain followers. That said, I do believe that the planet is due for some kind of cataclysmic event. Even in the absence of hard science to prove it, the human race has, as a whole, become complacent in our role as dominant species on a (normally) benign planet, that just happens to have the right resources, climate etc to maintain our existence. I think that that the 2012 thing is a bit specific, and I don't think we will be wiped out overnight, but I do think that some time in the relatively near future we're in for a shock, or at least a serious re-evaluation of our existence. I'm not religious, but some of the results that science has produced can definately help us to understand why societies in the past were so dependant on the idea of a superior being - imagine all this happening with no understanding as to why? Terrifying. Forewarned is forearmed.

I'm fairly open minded, and like to believe that there are things that happen that cannot be wholly explained with the knowledge and experience that we have at this time. However, the last one is a talking mongoose. A TALKING MONGOOSE for crying out loud!!!!!!! I should imagine that they were hallucinating - if you were going to lie, wouldn't you create something slightly more believable?

I know its a tad late now, but Happy Birthday Jamie! I hate to criticise a JFrater list, you are a legend in your own time after all, but American Idol is the american version of Pop Idol, which Simon Cowell created and exported. Then he cancelled the UK one and replaced it with X Factor. And now he is trying to do the same to the american one.

If you're ever in the UK, come down to the south coast for a roast! (the food kind, not the sexual kind. It didn't sound wrong until I read it back).

I agree with you. And I also believe that we should make more of an effort with our own problems before trying to sort out the rest of the world. We have our own homeless, poor and hungry to take care of, and we are supposed to be a civilised country - although this is hard to believe when you hear about the way the elderly are treated in hospitals and care homes, and the lack of support for so many carers. I do believe that you can tell a lot about a country by the way they treat the young and the old, and I think we have a lot of work to do at home first. I'm not saying that we shouldn't support these places, but that I would rather give my money to Barnardos, or Great Ormond Street or to any of the fabulous charities that work here in the UK.

I agree with Jfrater. And I'm English. Sorry to be unpatriotic and the rest but Oreos and milk are WAY better than tea and biscuits. Tehre's chocolate there for a start.
