We produce an application for the iPhone that allows docs, nurses and other care givers to use an electronic stethoscope to see and hear a heart sound. So there is lots more going on than this article lets on. One advantage that these phones have over a laptop is that they feature things like no viruses due to the locked down nature of the software, and also the ability to remote wipe lost or stolen devices. So iPhones are actually safer than any laptop with patient data. PCs have malware, some of which sends all files and keystrokes out to criminal organizations, who then resell it. The iPad and iPhone open up many new avenues for data gathering and viewing.
