Listverse : 15 Extremely Embarrassing Science Predictions

First of all, the power of hindsight is one that should not be taken for granted. That being said, number 15 only seems ridiculous to us now because it has never been done and nobody can fathom its realization. But the people who said everything else on the list also thought that what they were saying was the truth, in that they could not fathom any other outcome. I think including an unrealized prediction weakened the list for me.

You're wrong about the snapping! The list is right. Any other finger you may snap with also hits the base of your thumb, and that impact is what causes the noise to be made.

Haha, thank you. I'm relatively new to listverse, and to be quite honest, didn't know being- or trying to be- first was such a big deal. Sorry to anyone whom I've offended or who doesn't believe my ignorance!

When I first saw the title of this list, I thought it was oddly specific, but it turns out that there are at least 10, truly tragic human panics and stampedes. Well done.

Listverse : Top 10 Shocking Historical Beliefs and Practices

Gabe, scientific thought actually points to the fact that race is a non-existent thing. Race, scientifically speaking, is a culturally constructed idea. So, political correctness is not the absolute scourge of science and free thinking. Misinformation and self-righteousness, on the other hand...

Listverse : 12 Little Known Turning Points of World War II

If these turning points are so little known, were they truly turning points? Sure, in their own right, and when taken as an occurrence relative to a specific group of people, but in absolute terms, were these truly turning points of WWII? The statistics suggest so, but I would argue (without condoning or condemning, though) that turning points are directly related to peoples' perception(s) of the state of war. If these are little known, then I would say they weren't true turning points.

Listverse : Top 10 Foods Prepared Tableside

This list is odd. Not all of these are prepared tableside. Sure, they can be, but traditionally they're not. Specialty coffee, for example, is prepared at a counter over which the customer can see, I suppose, but it's not typically done at the table of a patron. The same could be said with crepes, which are popular as both a street food, and a prepared-in-kitchen food.

Listverse : 10 Ancient Methods of Birth Control

It's interesting that there is still so much contestation surrounding medically developed birth control when it's clear that people have been using various methods for so many years already. Furthermore, I know holistic medicine still has blends of Pennyroyal tea to induce menstruation in women.

Listverse : Top 10 Greatest Art Crimes

I'm surprised by the example choices on the list. Certain cases would have been so much more illuminating. In particular, the mistreatment of the contested Parthenon Marbles by the British Museum in 1937-1938 when they scrubbed them down, leaving brush marks (for the improper care category). Also, Vermeer's, Rembrandt's, and Renoir's legacies have arguably suffered more as a result of seriously convincing imitation pieces. But really, the most popular imitation pieces have got to be those posing as Monet's. Definitely n interesting list, though

Listverse : 15 Ways We Handle The Dead

The cannibalism one is not only ethnocentric ("primitive" people?), but a bit misinformed. Cannibalism has not happened nearly as much as people suspect throughout history, and though pacific islanders from Melanesia and tribal South American groups have been credited with practicing cannibalism, the cases have been very far and very few between. While I suppose it earns a spot on this list, as the people eaten are no doubt dead, I'm sure there are other practices and rituals that would have been better suited, and more illuminating, than cannibalism.

I truly don't think #5 fairly addresses the issue transgender people face today. I think it's just sort of an ignorant example to use as a "ridiculous case of political correctness"
