I never had the pleasure of direct contact, but I well recall her frequent contributions to Witchvox. I hope her spirit informs us all in the future through the body of work she left us all.

It's both a tragedy and a sign of progress that Wren's Nest has to shut down. I love Witch's Voice - there is still no better go to on the Internet - but a site with the level of demands it supports is hard to run even with two people as committed as Wren and Fritz. As was rightly pointed out by Starhawk, we need to start reaching younger generations of witches in their own platforms and languages, so the Facebook choice is an excellent and much more manageable move.

Definite malfunction. I got two replies yesterday and yet my comment has disappeared altogether.

I am simply horrified by this attack on Sacred Source; it is not in keeping with Hindu ideals at all. I have purchased as gifts multiple statues for personal friends who are active, traditional Indian Hindus. Each person was delighted with the unusual representations and felt it a good addition to their home shrines. From that reaction to this absurd, racist fundamentalism is just disgusting, and I hope that Sacred Source sticks to their guns. I'm definitely going to stash away a bit to purchase a Ganesha writer's status!

"The pentagram is only the latest thing Brown has painted on her barn, following upside-down crosses, an expletive, and images of Bettie Page, which were deemed unacceptable."

Wow, there is a whole lot more to this story, especially since the ACLU seems to be siding with the judge. I for one would not want to live next to neighbors offended by images of Bettie Page.

I was one of the initial posters about this on the City Pages blog (Minneapolis local.) My first thought was that they were claiming to be Wiccan on the assumption that they'd get out of it.But on reading your comments, I do want to add: I know too many Wiccan/Pagans in my area who are definitely animal hoarders, and/or hoarders in general - and they have dismal reactions to connecting a change of their habits to an improvement of their situation. This could be an example of how bad it can get. Also, I'm pretty sure one of the most recent Clean House episodes had a Wiccan couple on it. And I'm pretty sure it wasn't the show's first pagan household.

For Isaac: When my ex husband had a second round with fibrous dysplasia I focused on sending blue lights to the growth in his skull. MRI showed before and after my workings (they didn't know I was doing this) but they could see that the growth shrank. Might work on tumors, too.

The Harlan Murder: I just can't wrap my head around this. It sounds like this guy was already abusive, and it seems like this guy is doing something I've seen before - dragging in any kind of "I'm different, I'm special" take to justify his actions. I'm Wiccan, I realize that you can't just make things up. But there are people who skirt Wicca who take away exactly that assumption, and this is that law of averages that the wrong person got their hands on just a little bit of knowledge about the religion.

I've never taken a blood oath in Wicca. If asked to, I don't care if it's the middle of circle with the Goddess standing right there, I'd refuse.

I sure as hell wouldn't take a blood oath to soothe a savage boyfriend, and if this girl did, there's a chance she only did to get him to calm down.

The real question is whether we need to speak out with a "this is not Wicca" statement. I think we do, proactively. The earlier we speak, the more we can dilute any damage if this case gets higher profile attention.

I know that there have been a few attempts to rectify this - opening up comments on Witch's Voice, this blog and the PNC, PaganSpace, Covenspace - but somehow it does tend to fall short. It's a matter of setting up something and then getting the right people to use it first, I guess, but you've got me on how to get them to use it. I can't even get people to start a conversation on my Facebook fan page!

On the Louisiana standard: I think it's interesting that both a conservative Christian contingent and a Pagan contingent both support the law. While certainly I'm in favor of keeping religion out of government, it makes me wonder what the bigger picture is: after all, I did read my Farrars back-when and some of the writing was, if not homophobic, pretty seriously misinformed about the way homosexuality works. I can see certain Pagans still holding those views: we may loosely identify as one group, but in truth our religious diversity within Paganism means that we are an association of people who do not share the same values all the time.

I already rooted for the girl who hospitalized the police officer, although there's also definitely a lot more to the story there. That kind of violence is the kind you reserve for family members. (Worked with domestic violence situations for awhile, it sounds ... familiar.)

As to the situation with Haiti: I think there's also more to the story there, which is why I'm withholding judgment. I can't imagine the government willingly mowing down an altar to a Loa; the fear of consequences would be too great. If they built the bus station there, it sounds like it was for lack of any other options, and given the destruction of the Earthquake, perhaps they thought it less damaging to move the dead rather than to move the living still recovering from serious loss. It may not be about disrespect or even a political move, it may just be one of those horrible government situations where nobody's going to be happy but something HAS to be done. Transportation is key to an economy recovering from disaster, after all.

I can't help but think of a friend who still wants to bring back the old BBS's. While we've gained a lot in technology and visual presentation, I can't help but think we've actually lost a lot in actual dialogue - and sometimes creativity. I have such a hard time finding a truly good Pagan forum that's at my level, not way more obscure/specialized or way too new, with the right balance of users. From BBS to Usenet to Listservs, now to a lot of scattered camps everywhere.
