Yeah, congratulations. You so deserve it.

When I read of those politicians I think of my part of the world: British Columbia, Canada. Boy, that idiot wouldn't even make it for school councilor over here. The minute you mention religion (or atheism) in public even the other religious give you the cold shoulder.

All children should be taught that from an early age. It is, indeed, great wisdom.

Thanks! I was having problems posting comments with Intense Debate for a while, and became discouraged. But I should be here more often now that I can post comments.

Well done! Something you didn't say on your letter (and you shouldn't have, anyway), is that forbidding ideas is the best to spread them. The second they start suppressing Christianity on campus, the group will receive sympathy and will gain the right to claim persecution. No way that's a good idea.

Wonderful post! I suppose that most atheists think we should join the secular world in doing mundane activities like playing tennis or joining a band.

I know that, for example, soccer parents are busy Sunday mornings and never go to church.

But you're right, it would be nice if we were united. Since our "foe" has been a force forever. But without the threat of hell and the emotional blackmail of religion, it is hard, very hard to leave the comfortable couch and add yet another activity to our calendar.

In my case, it is a case of pure unadulterated lasiness. But I feel like we are a force where it matters: The Internet. Most young people "live" here and they are finding us.

My mother's iron hand went far beyond just taking me to church. She minimized me, beat me, called me fat, ugly and useless, and made me believe I was shit.

Because of that, the Christian doctrines stuck really well, unfortunately.

I believe that if the abuse hadn't been there, I would have left the church in my early twenties, instead of my early forties.

I am think that our friend George Alan Reker agrees with you, Chappie. What can be more kinky to him than imagining Randall covered in "dirty" oil.
