Are you connecting to the iPhone? We are focused on contact information (mobile, Skype, home, business, email) for groups and individuals across devices. Leverages the existing mail and calendar capabilities. We are testing through Safari and iPhone and so far, so good. Interested?

I interned at GM's treasurer's office in 1993. It was the same building where FAO Schwartz flagship store is. I remember leaving the office at 8:30 p.m. one day and noticing two shoppers who had the whole place to themselves - Michael Jackson and a young friend. It was just very wierd. I also remember getting mugged no less than 3 times that summer on my 8 block walk back to my crammed apartment. Things have changed since Mayor Dinkins.

You should look up Ted Schell while you are out there. Associated Group, Cometa, Clearwire, Russian Wi-Max, all sorts of interesting stuff. There's more energy in Ted at 70 than there is in most entrepreneurs. Let me know if you have time for a quick meet with him.

It would be interesting to put estimated usage (MB) beside these numbers. My guess is that we would see an even more disproportionate growth in bandwidth per device. If programming attention is focused on the challengers, it's only a matter of time before the playing field begins to level.

I also think there's an oppotunity for the US pre-paid market and Android. More on thesundaybrief.com

Great comments from everyone. A couple of data points to add to the conversation:
a) Clearwire announced Q1 results yesterday. 50 million of the population covered, growing to 120 million. So for 120 million (33% of the US), there is a third provider with multi-megabit speeds and no caps.
b) 3G data is available today to 270 million of the US population over two separate networks - Sprnt and Verizon. There's Cricket mobile (we'll see their additions tonight) to others. Both are hundreds of Kbps throughput.

It's not good enough, but there's more competition than you think for services today. What the FCC should have done is given the consumer who is trapped in a bundle the right to break the bundle without a termination fee if any of the services fail to meet consistent bandwidth guidelines.

As one who is developing programs that depend on low latency over wireless data networks, I am more concerned now about using the wireless data channel than ever. So are those who want to fund my application. The cable companies are not the only ones harmed here - so are the apps developers in time.

This might be one of the reasons why Wal-Mart does so well with Straight Talk. I bet there's a high correlation between the indices and Wal-Mart sales of the product. Verizon reported their reseller net adds of 1.26 million last week vs 288K total retail additions.
