I had some related thoughts (and a project concept) a few years ago around databases and art: http://joshg.wordpress.com/2010/12/16/data-art-co...

But I like the focus on the API over something static like a database. It empowers the artist to transform up-to-date and changing data into something equally up-to-date. Much more impacting, much more interesting.

Is this actually doing any location mapping at all? I think the word "gesture" is (accidentally) implying position-tracking when this is really just recognizing the difference between taps and scratches.

This sounds great! I'm a high school teacher and I'd love to use resources like you describe in a math or info-tech class. (I'm still mostly an on-call teacher so I can't promise a room full of beta testers though.)
