The Professional Family Manager : What I'm Worth Wednesday: Week Three

This post is great because it touches on some of the intangibles of saving money, like the fact that homemade pizza is delicious. I'm sure what you made is ten times better than what you could have bought at Sam's (I LOVE homemade pizza. Do you use a pizza stone? That is the best way to get that really delicious crust texture.) Also at-home pedicures -- personally I choose these anyways - not even to save money - because nail salons never feel quite 100% clean and I'm afraid of getting toe bacteria:-) My recent post History Buff

The Professional Family Manager : Avoid Garage Sale Hassles: Earn Money by Donating

I agree with The Mother to be very careful with non-cash donations claimed for deductions. The IRS has cracked down subsequently harder each year in the past 5 yrs or so. You must claim "fair market value" not replacement value i.e. what the donated item could be sold for at a thrift store or yard sale today, not what it would cost you to replace it. A reasonable amount to claim for a large bag of clothes or a box of mixed household items might be $5-10. Save all receipts and be very specific and get a signature from the charity you're donating to for anything larger, like "computer, good working condition, 2 yrs old, originally paid $1200." Personally I've been donating (without taking a receipt) garage sale items to friends who are having sales or orgs we know of who are having sales (like our preschool has a big annual sale e.g.) I don't like the clutter aspect of saving stuff myself. When I make up my mind to get rid of it, I want it gone!

I hardly ever drink water. I am bad! I do drink a lot of tea (both herbal & regular) so hopefully that counts a bit. Love these Pur pitchers. We always have one in our fridge. Found you via SITS:-) jgrossmanesq@yahoo.com

The Professional Family Manager : I Went to Bloggy Boot Camp, and All I Got Was...

Fun!!! Interesting about Blogger vs. Wordpress. I just started a brand new blog and did it in Wordpress. I do think it's easier to start in WP from the beginning. Doing a conversion seems like it could be a pain. I am going to Bloggy Boot camp in Phoenix May 1 -- woo hoo! Your post got me really excited about it:-)
