You forgot mainstream music videos. "You're a good girl (I know you want it)", cue bikini clad ladies fornicating over singers. It's so old and so boring it makes me want to yawn, after I've thrown my hands up in despair. What are we teaching our girls, as well as our boys.
I do disagree that it's no new phenomena though. the internet has def brought into play much more aggressive, degrading, illegal even pornography. Stuff that was NEVER easilly accessible to the average joe. That makes a difference to those that held a minor curiosity before but can now indulge and grow that.

ps but i guess these are two separate issues really aren't they.

I dont' think coersion (as in your defintion) should be any part of a marriage. comprimising or making decisions based on the good of the collective unit (the family) a big fat YES! we all do it all the time, and I would take points for my husband if it meant him losing his job and our family income etc etc. But coersion through authority? def not. marriage is a partnership not a power struggle.

very interesting post

My mum used to always say it was important for children to be bored, or they'd never learn to amuse themselves. Oaccasionally I wonder whether that was just convenient thinking, but no, I actually do believe that it's true. And doesn't a 14 yr old want to be on her own to daydream about boys?

ps you still feel bad about telling your kids off for not putting their own shoes off. woah. i think i'm going to have an awful lot of guilty flashbacks in my future.

I love that your love for blogging is routed in something so different from mine. I despair of code, and tinkering - it is a nuisance and baggage i carry around for the sake of my love of writing. I will forever have that image of you as a motorcycle mechanic now!

And there i was starting to read this thinking excitedly "You live in South London, I never knew, fancy coffee?!" only to be left disaoppointed. Not as disappointed as those poor souls cleaning their teeth with mineral water though. wretched things.

Couldn't agree more. My philosophy isn't dissimilar to the berocca slogan "you, but on a really good day" (hate the fact that's it an adveritsing slogan, but it's a good one). Be the best YOU can NATURALLY be.

The key to happiness is to notice the small things, in the moment. i know it's trite and cliched. but god is it true. The big picture is rarely filled with pure happiness, but a moment can be.
