Captain's Blog : Dear Pastor Chad - The Gay Niece Issue

As the mom of a son who is gay who is in a loving, committed relationship with a wonderful guy your response brought tears to my eyes. I have tears because I know there are so many places where my son has to worry if people will be offended if he holds the hand of the person he loves or sits close to him or gives him an affectionate peck and I have tears because you say people like that would be welcome at your home and that gives me hope. BTW - My son and his bf are welcome in my home and to act like a couple. If people in my home don't like it then they can either cringe and put up with it or politely excuse themselves and leave. I want my home to be at least one other place besides their home where they feel safe to be themselves! PS I have an Private Support group on Facebook for moms of LGBT kids who want to love their LGBT kids well - in a way that will help them be whole and healthy people. We have more than 240 members now and continue to grow. It's a group where moms support and encourage one another and learn and grow together. So many of us have had to leave our churches because it wasn't a safe place for our kids or our family. Before finding a group like ours most of us felt alone. If anyone is interested in joining they can email me at lizdyer55@gmail.com Here's a little more about the group http://serendipitydodah.wordpress.com/2014/06/01/...

Travis - But isn't there a difference in talking about an individual and talking about an organization that represents itself as working for justice?

The Love Revolution : the weak ghosts of advent.

George - I always appreciate what I learn from you. You are truly a blessing to me. And I must say that I believe you captured the true essence of Advent when you said "advent is the moment when we leave all we know and embark into a new reality"

The Love Revolution : the hierarchy of dirt.

George - I agree that our perspective is often the problem and our position of so called privilege robs us of a right and realistic perspective. As you point out what we see as important and valuable is often very different than what Jesus considered important and valuable. May we all be liberated from our positions of so called privilege. If you get a chance please add the links to the other synchroblog posts - you can find them at the end of my post "Step Away From The Keyhole" http://gracerules.wordpress.com/2010/11/09/step-a...

The Love Revolution : we're not kings or gods

George - Your words always penetrate my heart. The laws we have to depend on to offer a little justice are a poor substitute for what was meant to be. I love that you remind us that we have a responsibility to allow others to "become" and that "becoming" is something that is created and creative as we journey. Not only do we risk suppressing the "becoming" of the stranger but possibly we risk our own "becoming" when we "violently step in and remove them the opportunity for their journey to take place"

George, Thanks so much for sharing this - it is so enlightening. I have to struggle on a daily basis to stay in a teachable state - I'm better than I used to be but I still have to be very intentional.
