Actually, he's not all that confused. Albeit Sweden's a smaller country than the US, by the end of the year (or sometime this spring) Sweden will have full 4G coverage equal to that of the current 3G coverage; which is awesome btw.

In Sweden 4G is definitely a selling point. Ergo: what he's saying is true for the swedish market.

Also, his comment is regarding 4G networks and the reference to current handhelds concludes that they don't actually support 4G LTE in a single circuit but rather that calls are made over regular CDMA (or 3G) but data is handled by a circuit equal to that of a 4G-USB-dongle... to put it bluntly: two circuits, one of which is the equal to what a laptop needs to access 4G-networks - bad for your battery-life.

His comment is not shunning Apple to the depths of hell but rather a forecast on what he thinks will be necessary for Apple to keep its dominance. Since other cellphone makers are looking at true 4G LTE circuits, Apple would do best to do so as well. It's just stating the facts.
