Wolf Hall on the Orange Fiction Prize shortlist. Watching Orange Judge Daisy Goodwin talking about the Orange Fiction Prize on BBC News. @daisygoodwinuk on Twitter I think.

There's a great review on TimesOnline for the Stoke Newington Literary Festival. http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_a...

Although I think the quote from Diane Abbott which says “tradition of descent and of literature” should actually read “tradition of dissent and of literature” which would be more like the truth. After all Stoke Newington has been climbing back up the social ladder for the past 20+ years.

One of the reviews on Amazon says "Katie Fforde's many fans will adore this book in which she is very much on form." which should go some way to countering the slightly negative view here. I follow Katie Fforde on Twitter and she is a very nice person.

It's great to see people reading the original James Bond novels. Ian Fleming was a very talented writer and the films frequently fail to do him justice.

The James Bond character is much more complex than he is painted in the movies although it was Timothy Dalton who asserted himself and tried to play the more complex side of Bond. I was always sniffy about his interpretation of Bond until I realised understood what he was trying to do after reading the Casino Royale and the collection of short stories.

Well worth a read, proper spy stuff.

This is a great story. I'm not sure how many women would read and enjoy it though as my memory of the main character is quite misogynistic and there is always sex on the menu when the dice are in control.

I think that the book is a great thought experiment and this is one of the great functions of writing. To allow us to explore areas of behaviour that we never would consider in normal life.

I thought this was a pretty good novel. Quite exciting. Dan Brown has a way of pushing the science a bit too far, into pseudoscience,, which I find a bit unconvincing but in this case it didn't detract too much from the story.

I think this book is brilliant. I read it as a teenager and it was one of those novels that taught me something about humanity, very important as a teen I think. Thoroughly recommended!
