Hi Peggy,
It is worth noting that the money collected for His Holiness' birthday in 2006 during the teachings in India was rejected by HHDL's office. MR said that he would give it to Elly (Jigme) because she knew how to donate it anonymously to one of HHDL's projects. Sounds like HHDL even refused it for one of his projects.
When I think about how much of an insult that is, I wonder why my eyes were not opened years ago.

DM was much like royalty and their court. The inner circle used to hang out with the lamas all day long at the lama house. The lamas were not really accessible but if they needed something, there was always a minion to do the task. If they needed someone to do a google search, make copies, prepare food, make phone calls, or any other task, there was a house full of people to do their bidding. For Christie to make a phone call under these circumstances would be much like the Queen of England doing so.

Funny because anyone who was around DM would doubt it when I said she made the call. Anyone who was not around DM would have suspicions if I said someone did it for her. The background is needed to understand the culture. If someone called for the queen, is that heresy?

Zirconia. You are quoting Roach like he always tells the truth. We need to question everything Roach says and not take it for fact. 'Perhaps' he told his students something entirely different than he told a NYT reporter. More spin!

Anon, Can you tell us more about the way Roach treated Christie? My only glimpse, during that last year, was what I saw in public and even that was not very good. When you speak about hypocrisy in the way MR treated C, are you referring to after the breakup or in general. Thank you for sharing.

I had forgotten. Here is what it said in part:
"I plan to do this retreat at DM; I am seeking the Board’s permission to use the Guard House near the spring as my retreat cabin"

They called it a 'fun raising.'
I think you are right Virgil. He had no intention to do retreat when he wrote this. It was a ploy.
After that his students donated for a cabin for him to stay at DM when he visits.
