Hi Aja-

I didn't speak to HGTV about that-Nancy did. I agree with Hrsh10-the Gilson's look old enough to apply for a reverse mortgage, and probably qualify to pay less taxes than a working couple because they are retired. They would probably owe less than $250,000 the first year, but I don't know exactly how much. A working single person would owe $296,000. If they own their present home, they can sell it and apply the money toward the taxes. They could use the equity in the GH to pay anything else they owe. With the reverse mortgage, the house would be paying them for the rest of their life. Notice that Sandra said she would use the $100,000 toward their medical bills and didn't mention a mortgage payment? That suggests to me that she owns the house. She used to work for the New York Tax Dept., so I'm sure she has all the angles figured out and can get by without our help. That's why I am going to wait to see if the Gilson's decide to stay before I send anything. You can send something if you want to, But I don't think it will be necessary.

Hi Zip-

I'm glad you and Goldie are playing it safe. Another safety concern is announcing get-togethers on blogs. A horde of wild teenagers could crash the party and completely destroy your house. I'm not joking-I've read about people having up to $200,000 worth of damage. Teens across the country have struck about 4 homes already. They call their friends on social networking sites and arrive by the carload and barge right in.
I don't live in a great neighborhood either (sigh). Pinehills would have been such a nice alternative....

I think he saw Kermit's name, and Superfan thought he was reacting to the state.

When I found out I didn't win, I changed my internet account to Small Business so I could earn a living with my computer and maybe be able to buy a home of my own someday. Then before I could get on the blog and tell everyone what I was doing, my ISP cancelled my residential account and today is my last day before they cancel my computer security until I receive the software in the mail on July 9th. They are letting me use my free email accounts, so I am now logged in as edith0168.
Tell everyone I said hi and wjll be back on the blog ASAP.

Also, Goldie please don't advertise any valuables in your home, because they could very well be gone by the time you return!

Zippie-did you miss me?

I am changing my Internet account to Small Business, and my ISP canceled my residential account before I could say goodbye and tell you what's going on. Also, they canceled my security until July 9th when I open the new account, so I'll be off line until then.
I opened the account so I can make money with my computer and hopefully be able to afford a home someday.
I've been thinking about Sandra Gilson and her husband-they look old enough to qualify for a reverse mortgage, and if they use some of the money they won to fix up and stage their current home, they could get a good price for it and apply the money to their taxes. They might even qualify to pay less taxes than a couple who are still working, so I think they will make out fine without our donations, depending on what they get for their home, and if they can use the equity in the GH to cover for the rest. It's up to each person if they want to give or not, so I'm not going to until I know if they're going to stay there or not.
Sandra worked for the New York Tax Dept., so I'm sure she is very savvy about things like this and knows exactly what to do.

Hi Zip and Goldie-

Hope you don't mind my saying this, but it is not wise to blog on a public site that you are away on vacation in case some hacker could obtain your home address and break in. I'm glad you're using pen names and the chance is small, but I'm concerned for your safety just the same.
Hope you have a safe and happy 4th!
