Right, I forgot, now Al Gore is broke as a joke.

In America, sexually assaulting a woman (and yes, "unwanted sexual touching" is assault) is a crime, as it should be. If Gore were a nobody, he may have very well gotten his ass kicked for sexually assaulting a young woman, but given the influence he has in society as a former vice president, I can understand why this young woman didn't. It's really easy to assume that she could have just walked out, even if that meant she would lose her job. It would have been her word against a political figure's word...right around the peak of his popularity.

Two summers ago, an ex-friend of mine got caught shoplifting at Old Navy in The Gallery. I was so nervous for her that I chain smoked outside of the mall, panicky texting my (then) girlfriend about how we were going to get her out of jail if our friend were arrested. My ex-friend was allowed to text me from her phone, got a lecture from store security (in which she was banned from the store), and was on her merry little way after about 45 minutes or so.

When she left, she was chatting it up with store security like they were old pals and she bragged to me that she talked her way out of all the trouble because one of the security guards had also been a bouncer for the local dyke bar. I'll bet the facts she had her college ID and was dressed in business casual clothing didn't hurt, either. Oh yeah, and you know, the whole part about being white and more able to pass it off as a foolish indiscretion.

This girl, mind you, is literally a professional shoplifter. (One of the many, many reasons she is an "EX" friend.) I haven't spoken to her in some time, but last I heard, that was the only time she had been caught. But I'm sure it has nothing to do with her being white. Riiiiiight.
