You make it sound like people with a post-secondary education wouldn't support the conservatives or education. Luckily, for some, their education helped them develop how to think, not what to think. You are certainly entitled to your ideology, but don't equate it with intellectualism.

Excellent summary. The point isn't simply one about data integrity. The government forcing citizens to disclose even more about their personal lives, from movements, to detailed spending to anything else would lead to even more accurate data collection; but most recognize there has to be a line on acceptable intrusion.

It is about the balance between the need for information to run government, and the burden of citizens to provide their personal information. I see it as a case of intellectual property rights, namely personal private information. Experts want the government to extract this data for them, without compensating or even requiring consent for this. They clearly acknowledged this as valuable data, so the government is truly the heavy handed collector. The voluntary survey balances the need for useful data collection, while respecting Canadians right (section 8 of the charter of rights) to consent to use that information.

It doesn't really matter!

If Harper want s to appoint his brother or sister in law to GG, it is his prerogative. Johnson is clearly not highly partisan, regardless of the conspiracy theories out there.

Look at historical appointments, versus this appointment! Clearly this is another case of the PMO decentralizing the process of appointments at the whim of a PM. Like the vote on afghanistan, this PM has actually moved toward less partisan appointments and decision making processes with significant national interest.
