In the words of philosopher and writer George Santayana, "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

It is obvious that the world has learned no lessons from the Nazi genocide of European Jews. Think Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and Darfur. Ignoring past genocides will not help. Teaching the horrors of them will help because we all benefit from enhanced knowledge.

We deal with current genocides by teaching the terror, degradation and mendacious behavior of our ancestors. They must stand forever in the light of education as mendacious monsters, never again to be fostered, repeated or allowed to permiate our societies.

Whenever we stand up to prejudice, we send a critical message to the world. As we continue to live in an age of genocide and ethnic cleansing, we must repel the broken ethics of our ancestors, or risk a dreadful repeat of past transgressions. Religious, racial, ethnic and gender persecution is wrong; tolerance is our progeny's only hope. Only through such efforts can we reveal the true horror of genocide and promote the triumphant spirit of humankind.

It is therefore essential that we disclose the factual brutality and horror of genocide, combating the deniers’ virulent, inaccurate historical revision. We must protect vulnerable future generations from making the same mistakes.
