I meant to say that it has its origins in American. which is what makes it uniquely American. In the same manner baseball is uniquely American although played internationally.

I watched a dear and close friend addicted to drugs slowly kill herself. A beautiful soul in her youth. In young adulthood she had these nasty demons she just could not conquer. It still grieves me to this day. When one is an addict, they are the only ones who can make the decision to stop. Now amount of intervention and/or love is going to make a wit of difference. When an addict decides they wish to stop, they will only then stop. As for Amy Winehouse, I only heard of her through some of her fans. I understand she was a hell of a talent. Whatever haunted her in her addiction I hope she is now at peace. And I wish peace for her family and loved ones as well.
