Reading Local : User Friendly Redesign of RLP in the Works!

Gabe, I'm terribly sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. My condolences to your family. I would definitely be interested in helping out with your beta testing. And as far as what I would like to see in the redesign, I'd like RLP to continue to have a FB interface and also a feed (as it does now) so I can follow it in my Google Reader. It makes it much easier for me if I can follow all the blogs I choose to keep tabs on in one of these two places!

Reading Local : Reading Local Review: \"Dead End Gene Pool\" by Wendy Burden

"Self-indulgent, but absorbing", that's a perfect way to describe this book. It's definitely well written, humorous, in a black humor sort of way, but parts of it felt a bit mean spirited to me. I had the same feeling reading Jules Feiffers' new memoir, Backing into Forward. I guess he got so much flak about his treatment of his mother in this memoir when he went to speak for women's groups, that he devoted an entire chapter ( "The Jewish Mother Cabal") to defending himself. I don't deny that both authors may well have had just grievances against their mothers. It's just that I was raised with the maxim "If you don't have something nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all." :) I'm glad you found the review helpful!

Thanks Karen. I think we're on the same page. Between being sick, having the kids home for spring break, and now trying to meet end of month writing deadlines, I think I'm ready for some vacation of my own!

This novel sounds interesting on many levels, especially the generational issues , and also the story of a young woman trying to learn more about her cultural roots. I always enjoy learning about other cultures through reading.Great interview!
