I have been investigating this claim for sometime now. I have been trying, so far in vain, to find accurate references to original historical documents or artifacts that might substantiate the assertion that Jesuits introduced Indian material to Europe around 1550+. So far I've drawn a big goose egg. You can find any number of references to claims that "strong circumstantial evidence" exists but nothing that might actually constitute evidence. For historians to make such assertions they might include scans or photographs of some of the alleged Jesuit documents. Until I see actual source materials that can be independently examined and analyzed I will lump this in the interesting but probably bullshit category.
