West Ham Till I Die : Match Thread: Birmingham v West Ham

It's always a tale of 2 halves. You can count on 45 minutes of solid play, but it seems like we'll inevitably lose the game if we're not up by at least 2 goals. Our offensive play was so much better in the first half when Bridge was coming into play and sending balls in. In the second half, why did we switch to the right where Faubert can't send a good cross in???

Bah, extra time today also mean tired legs for Sunday's game. Let's see how long that cup run will go for.

Does anyone else think it may have been a bad idea to put on two players (Benni and Dyer) who have little to no match fitness?

West Ham Till I Die : A 'Footballing Epipthany' for Victor Obinna?

SJ, I hate to be that guy, but I'm wondering if you meant "epiphany" rather than "epipthany." Or perhaps it's a turn of phrase that I'm not aware of, in that case feel free to slag and ignore as needed. :)

West Ham Till I Die : Transfer Gossip: Hello Cruz and Byehrami?

I think the rumors are Caicedo is a one year loan with an option to buy, and Santa Cruz would be a buy of either 8 or 10 million pounds depending on what you read.

All these links with strikers and forwards (Caicedo, Aliadiere, Santa Cruz, etc.) but our defense is still the biggest weakness of this team. When do we finally address that issue?

So true, so true. I think I would be more willing to be a stepping stone club for him than Remy though. Maybe one day we'll be legitimate contenders for players like this . . .

I think I remember reading that Parker signed a one year extension to the contract he has now. Supposedly he has three years on the current one, plus the one year added at 70k per week.

What makes me sad is that we couldn't hammer out a deal for Neymar. I watched him play in the U.S.-Brazil friendly yesterday and he looks phenomenal, nothing like an 18 year old. He's going to be something special really soon.

It's a good thing EarlsCHammer found that place, I forgot the time difference is worse there. At least in Ohio the games come on at 7:30 or 10:00AM, and there are plenty of people who don't have a problem drinking that early.

Haha I totally forgot about the time difference in San Fran. I doubt there will be typical sports bars open at that time, good thing you found that bar! That's being a real fan, I say

Your best bet is to find a soccer pub, or a lot Irish type pubs around here will carry Premier League games. Regular sports bars, not so much. If you type in soccer pub on Google, it will give you a list of places you could try around San Francisco.

I think the real gem in all the rumors in Caicedo. He's still only 21 years old and a man-child in terms of physique. I seem to remember him having a nice run of goals for Man City before he fell down the pecking order with all the new signings they had. If we're looking for strong, physical, FIT strikers I would say take a punt on him, rather than an out of shape, questionably aging Yakubu. Remy would be ideal, but let's be honest, we all know that ship has sailed.

West Ham Till I Die : Creating a 'Changed Mentality'

Our game at Aston Villa can go two ways. Either we can take advantage of an unsettled situation or the Villa players will be so happy to see O'Neill leave that they will play out of their minds. This will be a good test of our team mindset, because if we are strong enough mentally we have the ability to go and take some points off of them. Here's to hoping that our new transfers bring some of that mettle that we need to succeed, and the team play strong and for each other.

West Ham Till I Die : A New Kiwi Hammer?

Tomkins, Nouble, and Sears all qualify as Under 21 members as well. The premier league website says that anyone born after January 1st, 1989 qualifies as U-21 for the upcoming season. We have a little more space than you thought, but there's still plenty of dead wood to be lost.

A strong signing, if it actually happens. SEHammer was right, the New Zealand defense held up well during the World Cup and Reid had that huge goal in stoppage time against Slovakia in their first game. You have to like how the defense is shaping up, if you throw in the Ben-Haim signing. Ilunga/Daprela on the left, Upson/DaCosta playing in the middle, Spector/Dyer/Faubert on the right with Tomkins/Reid/Ben-Haim able to swing between the right and center depending on the need. This is already so much more depth and competition than we had last year.

West Ham Till I Die : The Captain is the 'Main Man,' But Able Lieutenants Are a Must!

Not permanently, I would hope. I worry about his pace out in a wide position, especially considering some of the wingers out there in the league. He is such a rock inside when he plays with confidence. You have to think that he will slide back into the middle when Upson leaves, and maybe play there this season too, since Reid probably won't have enough time to adjust to the league just yet. Unless you're talking about Ben-Haim pairing up with Upson in the middle, though he gives us another option at right back.

I know it was only one play, but wasn't he responsible for Slovakia's goal in their World Cup game? Still, he's young and should learn from mistakes like that.
