Loving the color - it adds so much atmosphere, with sources of light & all. Definitely a change for the better.

BeanLeaf Press : The Bean 638

I find the comic a lot easier to look at it in color. In B&W it's so stark as to be almost blaring. It's also hard to differentiate between some elements in panels in B&W. And the Bean is so lush that it really benefits from the color.

Travis - are you a Watterson fan? I find the inking of your earth & trees to be very Watterson-esque - beautiful, really. I take it you use Photoshop?

Naked Security : Two girls arrested after one allegedly brags on Facebook about cyber bullying suicide victim

Ms Vaas - I believe the sheriff was saying that the bully's phone should have been smashed after her parents said her account was hacked, resulting in the abhorrent post.

Unschoold : Credit for the fonts

That's the exact thought that sparked this site :-) Wouldn't it be cool to be able to explain unschooling/lifelearning/natural learning with comics? I'm hoping to have the material for that eventually through my work here. Next week is my attempt to channel McCloud and explain a little something as part of the current strip's story arc.

Unschoold : Credit for the fonts

Every Monday, and once I get faster I'd like to move up to a couple of times a week. Then again, if I start another one (I have 3-4 other ideas) then maybe weekly will be it. McCloud's way of explaining things is really something - he talks about the power of comics and the whole time you're reading him, that power is in action. If I could explain unschooling with comics half as well as him, I would be very happy.

Thank you! I guess sharing it however you're comfortable is fine :-) Heather (@swissarmywife) suggested a badge for a blog, so I'll try to work on those. But first I need to finish next week's comic - or - I should say - start on it!

Scott McCloud is a *big* inspiration - he's already venerated on the About page ;-) I read Understanding & Making Comics back-to-back a couple of years ago, finally read Reinventing Comics a couple of weeks ago, and then finished Making Comics for the 3rd time last week. I haven't looked at comics the same way since I read him. Have you seen The Cartoonist? I had never heard of Bone but it was a really cool documentary, with a lot of commentary by McCloud. There's an 80min on-stage discussion from Ohio State with McCloud & Bone's creator Jeff Smith. I also found out that Ohio State has a cartoon library & museum, which is pretty cool.

Thanks! This is totally unschooling in action :-) I also keep in mind that since the main way I teach the kids is by example so it's great for the kids to see me doing something that I enjoy.

Thanks Michael! I've still got a ways to go but I am pleased that I got something done & out there. Getting started seems to be the toughest part of anything. Marjane Satrapi is new to me, but I've already requested Persepolis from the library :-)

Unschoold : About

Yep - I started with Understanding Comics, then Making Comics, which I subsequently bought (and just finished re-reading). I just read Reinventing Comics a couple of weeks ago. I was thinking of starting a new blog called 'The Gospel According to Scott McCloud' :-P Cheekiness aside, I am indebted to him for opening my eyes to the possibilities, especially writing about things that we know about and are meaningful to us. To start, Unschoold will be vignettes, without recurring characters. I want to capture the situations & feelings that we share when out & about in mainstream society. Maybe I'll have recurring characters & a storyline some day, but it's a bit much for me to handle right now :-)

I follow you on Twitter, and thus found your post this morning. I'm hoping you and other unschoolers like the comic - I really want something that we can relate to. I'm sure it'll be uneven at first and improve as time goes on. It's also like a training ground for 3-4 other comics I have gestating.
