I gave her a million reasons to stay. I dangled bribes, I recounted loving gestures, I pleaded and praised and threatened and screamed.
But I never got through to her.
She just looked at me inquisitively with a vacant expression, devoid of any emotional reaction to this long ongoing conflict.
“Just stay!” I begged, kneeling in front of her. “Please, stay. Do it for me! Come on, I know you can do it.”
No dice.
Stay wasn’t in her vocabulary.
She ran straight into me. Covering me with kisses.
I guess you can’t teach old dogs new tricks.
