Aus

How aweful, it seems to me this rosey picture we keep painting ourselves of a better future where man will use his creativity to improve himself seems very bleak now. I see a future where this ideal man has a higher rate of cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes caused by a corporate diet of refined carbohydrates, chemically 'enhanced', genetically modified 'foods'. This man is hearing and vision impaired from iPods, TV and internet. He is overweight, bald, stressed, addicted to caffeine and dehumanized by the inhumane regime of work and the shallow, meaningless, soul destroying cycles of consumption and alientation. Now we have nuclear power making this world an even worse place with radiological poisons being spread far and wide, contaminating everything, yet we look to these priests of science who have faith in 'safe exposure' levels of radiation. Yet how aweful and tragic the reality is when you look at places like Pripyat, rendered sterile and dead by radiological contamination, it's like a daunting look into the future. I'd hate to think of all of Fukushima as Pripyat, yet the reality seems to be that in time the whole area will indeed become just that. The next question I have to ask is who's going to be next? Then who after that? Will we just let the nuclear industry kill us all and render this earth a desolated death star? This foolish idea we had since the Enlightenment of 'progess' has resulted in the earth destroying insanity we now regard as modern, civlized, western culture.

thirdworlder

There was mention of a 15mile shift of Japan into the Pacific Ocean at the onset of the first quake on march 11th Does anyone know if the march 28th quake to the Northeast Japan was a kinetic correction to this or were these mutually exclusive events. Also shouldn’t people be more concerned about the time line between these two quakes, so that instead of all focus being on Fukushima all other plants along fault lines should be “somewhat secured “pronto? I mean, should a correction on the tectonic plates occur soon. Anyways we are all just sitting ducks!!! Or just lemming marching straight for the cliff!! Thanks Ex Pat for putting together all that info seeing as all these has been put on the back burner. I haven’t read about any consultations going on to involve people that worked Chernobyl or Third Mile Island. Well I am sure they will get to it, when they get to it …maybe someday if only to compare notes. Yeah, plus I know this thing will be with us for a long while…till the next one, of course.

pedro

Regarding this incident, I have been following reader's comments on a number of channels. In general the "What-are-you-worried-about?" crowd has been retreating quite rapidly since the middle of last week. The obvious solution to our energy problem is conservation. Why do people in L.A. buy the same cars that are absolutely necessary in Alaska and the mid-west? That is our one-size-fits-all perception, as in a Federal Highway system, centralized manufacture, etc. 90% of cars in L.A. should weigh a couple of hundred pounds. Get the big trucks off the roads with rail systems. Rome did not allow drayage in daylight hours. It was a pedestrian city by day, an industrial road system at night. Imagine rush hour in L.A. without big trucks, and smaller cars for personal transportation. An eight lane freeway could be a 12 lane freeway without pouring a yard of concrete. Build the vehicles in L.A. for L.A. Rent a SUV foe your family's two week camping trip. ETC. Heat wells.

James

Just wait, in a few months Japan will essentially be a dead country, or at least less populated. There is no way a population that close to a leaking nuclear plant can survive that level of exposure. The 3 ways you can protect yourself from nuclear exposure are time, distance, and shielding. The time element will get worse the longer the populations in close exposure for a short period of exposure. They can't really put any distance between the population and the nuclear source unless they all leave Japan, and finally shielding, I don't see any attempts being made to protect to workers of the plants or the populations. Telling the locals to stay in their homes isn't going to protect them, it will be like being under house arrest. The longer they stay in their homes, unless forced to do so, the likelihood of the people getting angry and saying the hell with it and going out anyways. The rest of the World, especially the U.S. is betting on Japan being up and running just as it was before the disaster, and producing the products that the World wants. This is a dream that won't happen anytime soon, maybe even years.

The first and last word on Chernobyl comes from the authors of the book on it. The suppressed book. What you don't know can _seriously_ damage the health of everyone living on earth! No, really !!! Got genetic mutations of billions of humans for at least seven generations? No? YOU WILL! "If you hear "there is danger, but it's not immediate," run away very far, immediately!" "On the US W. Coast the danger is from radioactive iodine. You can paint ordinary iodine on your skin." ( and it will be absorbed by the thyroid. To block uptake of radioactive iodine. In Russia this was some of the only treatment available. ? ) But does it work and, if so, how well does it work? "If you take it (potassium iodide?) 18 hours before exposure to radioactive iodine, it reduces the risk of thyroid cancer by thirty percent. If you wait until two days after exposure, then it reduces the risk by two percent." In reply to a question, "Did the Japanese government wait too long before issuing potassium iodide." A. Yes!. Q. US? A. So far 'You don't need it,' said the governing arm of the US Nuclear industry Military-Industrial-Congressional complex. And you trusted them. HA! "Russian cities were protected by seeding clouds with (silver?) iodide / cement / to precipitate rain and radiation." The Russians are incredibly practical / effective. There is a lot to be said for living under a system that is agreed to be entirely corrupt. Is Japan and the US as practical and effective and as aware that they too live in entirely corrupt system ??? No chance! Ralph Nader - 1959 stitch-up agreement between IAEA -- the nuclear industry PR outfit whose #1 job is to promote nuclear power -- and WHO. 'The WHO will ask IAEA's permission before commenting on any nuclear catastrophe / disaster / apocalypse / cock-up.' Oh great! Paraphrased. "There were a lot of deaths in the US from Chernobyl." (170,000 of the 1m total?) "Contaminated food products started arriving in the US after the Chernobyl disaster. Herring from Norway. Cheese from Germany. Dried fruit from Turkey." Some was destroyed. "It was all made secret." Wonderful. So because we didn't hear about it then, 'they' will try exactly the same wheeze again. No change there. US Mushrooms at the ready! "We have the same problems in Russia as you have in the US, with corporations." Amen! A (The?) leading Soviet Academician (now Russian) has been taking part in a protest of the WHO in Geneva. Now in its 204th week, over its suppression of the truth from Chernobyl. Namely the million deaths and the hundreds of millions of genetic injuries that will occur for the next seven generations. Who knew? Daily Mail - Professor Chris Busby - "It's a catastrophe. You can get nuclear explosions. If there is an explosion (_or_ _explosions_!) it will put hundreds of tons of radioactivity into the atmosphere." Correct then. Still correct today - see 3. below. The dopes at the UK Reich-wing Daily Mail put out video with _no_ indication of who the speaker is. In this case he later turned out to be extremely important and extremely credible! The photos weren't bad, either. - 'Resilience: A man in a suit walks calmly through a scene of devastation in Sendai, Japan' - March 15, 2011 - UK Daily Mail - - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1366341/J... 2. FUKUSHIMA EXPLOSION(S) Professor Busby - "A nuclear explosion is a possibility. They're calling it a zirconium hydrogen explosion. It's by no means certain that this is the case, in fact, because we don't get to see in the top of the reactor. It's inconceivable to me that they haven't flown a helicopter over the top of the reactor so we can look down inside and see if what they are saying is actually true. So I have very big suspicions about this. And, incidentally, a great deal of radiation is coming out. ... What this means is that up to a hundred kilometers away we are getting concentrations of plutonium, caesium and iodine, just like Chernobyl. And it caused significant harm to the population I have to say." HA! Logical. Truthful. Accurate. Open. That's Busby off HMG's Christmas card list ... @ 2.40 That one video should tell you exactly what to expect when you hear the UK government line. Namely bugger all! - Professors Ian Fells and Chris Busby. One is a nuclear industry shill / spokes-droid who appears to think you need plutonium in your orange juice. The other is not. Clue - Vive la France! ; ) - - http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xhlgks_radiation... Found on Low Level Radiation Campaign - - http://www.llrc.org/indexpage.htm LATEST 3. 'Deconstructing Nuclear Experts,' by Professor Chris Busby - March 28, 2011 - Counterpunch - - http://www.counterpunch.org/busby03282011.html MORE INFORMATION Low Level Radiation Campaign - Chris Busby, Scientific Secretary, European Comittee on Radiation Risk - ECRR RISK MODEL In particular note their risk calculations for ingested Fukushima fallout, (alpha-particles mostly) based on gamma radiation readings. _Six_hundred_times_ greater. Which neatly explains the explosion of cancer rates after Chernobyl. And will again after Fukushima! Which is why you need to do the reading. No change there, then! - See '20th March 2011' - no direct link available - Low Level Radiation Campaign - - http://www.llrc.org/ So when you see the US. W. Coast background gamma radiation go up by thirty to fifty percent in rain, you can calculate the resulting cancers over fifty years. Depending on how long you think it will take the Japanese to put their entire Fukushima site in a concrete sarcophagus. (460 days? Wild guess. A. Because the Russians were lead by lions. Not the bureaucratic donkey's / nuclear industry satraps we get in the USUK and Japan. B. It's six, or seven times the job at Chernobyl!) Best comment so far department - "There is no [BOOM!] danger of a nuclear [BOOM!] meltdown.... Honest [BOOM!].Ctd p. 94. - UK Media Lens Messageboard is excellent.
