He has not mellowed in his old age as this would entail him apologising for some of his more infamous outbursts. I never liked him when I was younger and more impressionable and I dislike him just as much nowadays. All that said I am looking forward to next weeks revelations.

So please do not distance the old bully from the tens of thousands of people who gave him succour. It's no wonder the Haas talks failed, because when one tries to explain the role of Paisley and his ilk, you can see why unionist get jittery. Paisley cannot be defended, and for many years represented everything that was wrong with the North. He may not have placed bombs or pulled the triggers, but he was worse than that. The supposed man of God manipulated the young through his prejudice and bigotry to "defend Ulster" from Catholicism, and now claims he was shocked by the violence in Dublin and Monaghan? This man terrorised the citizens of Ireland north and south, both catholics, protestants and everyone in between.. A megalomaniac who couldn't be bear to be part of any organisation whether political or religious unless he was running it. The blood and thunder calls for young men to murder and maim others, the lives of their families completely wrecked. Yet he believes none of this, he believes he is not accountable because it wasn't his finger on a trigger or a detonator, Hitler personally never gassed any Jews but the world still holds him responsible. And we should hold Paisley responsible for the loss of all those lives, people who would still be here today if he had never existed.

Mallie skirted around the issue's and never once tried to pout him on the spot. It was like watching someone being attacked with a Kleenex. Where were the probing questions on Paisley's behaviour, in the likes of Burntollet, and the town centre's when he called his rabble to protest at the civil rights marches. Why wasn't he asked about the part he shameless played when he had the Rev. Armstrong and his family chased form their home and out of the town.

I often wonder about hos most ardent followers. Do they now understand the extent to which they were duped? The interview was an exercise in total denial. It was always someone else's fault. I wish the man a happy retirement but regret the despair he brought to the province. One thing he seems to be responsible for is having the likes of Frazer and Bryson believing that if they act in a similar vein then the hard liners will follow along like sheep,as in the 60s and 70s. Regrettably, neither of the two gentlemen have anything like the hypnotic charisma Dr.Paisley once had . They may both have the same hatred within but that is no longer enough in this new world .
