Jaladhi

Muslims are persecuting, kidnapping, raping and looting all non-Muslims living in Muslim lands(in many cases they have looted the lands from non-Muslims and made it their own). We should be focussing on plight of all non-Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, Sikhs, Bahais, etc, living in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, many African countries such as Nigeria, Somalia, Mali and on and on in Middle East - Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen,..There isn't a Muslim country in this world where Muslims allow non-Muslims to live peacefully without the fear of being raped, kidnapped, looted and murdered unless they convert. And the irony is we allow Muslims to come to all non-Muslim countries where they import the brutality and cruelty Islam with rhem. Stop Muslim immigration into our countries and hold all Muslims responsible for the atrocities committed by Muslims all over the world. To hell with political correctness - Muslims are not wanted in our lands. Period.

After all, doesn't Obama still claim to be a Christian? Another problem is a lack of knowledge and a feeling of powerlessness. I think many times Christians do feel deep sadness over this and do long to help, but we just don't know how!

Raymond

As a member of a liberal denomination, there is 100% silence on violence against Christians overseas. And the mainstream media is almost totally silent, so what chance do Christians have of learning about Islamic violence against Christians (99% of it comes from Islam). Whenever Muslims are referred to, the immediate reaction is they are wonderful people, just as good as Christians. So you see, I have my work cut out for me. Why should I be the enlightened one? Why not me?

mlcblog

True Christians have their eyes on things above as well as personal salvation on an individual basis. This, among other points of focus (forgive your enemies, do not retaliate but suffer instead with faith in God) are ideas that seem foreign and, indeed, even offend others, just as Christ himself said would happen. The hard part for me is being judged by those who have a whole list of things they thing we Christians should think or do. As for me, I shall stick with the Lord himself and continue to study him and his ways for me. Of course we care about people -- in all situations, and their eternal and present well-being! The world will not understand us. Jesus was careful to point that out to us. However, I too decry the disgusting division in some sects, as in tracts abhorring Rome. They remind me of the Pharisees of old but worse. People who would make rules for others that they cannot follow themselves. Bottom line, we are each accountable.

Cassandra

I have read all the above comments to your article and all of them are good and to the point. I am a catholic Christian and I have tried all my life to follow Christ teachings. In fact in my family my sisters always said that Bonnie is the one who forgives. I am not trying to be righteous in saying that, it is true I forgive. But when I see what is happening around the world with Christians now I am deeply sadden and it is getting harder for me to forgive bad deeds. I do not care if you are a Methodist ore a Presbyterian or a Baptist or a Catholic you are a CHRISTIANS. You are a followers of Christ. And if you are Jewish you follow the teaching of the Torah. Recently I told my grand son ,at Easter , because he was asking me what the story of Easter is I told him that Christ was Jewish and all his friends and family were Jewish. I told him why Christ died on the cross but I also told him that The JudeoChristians doctrines are intertwined and cannot be severed. We Are in fact JudeoChristians. Once in a while I go to a synagogue , I also go to a catholic church and was invited recently to a Methodist church. The message is the same everywhere. Love and not hate. So now to go back to the article above and why Christians are so ununited. Lets start with the pope first. he is a pathetic pope. Catholics cannot count on him to help them and he will support interfaith . Interfaith is fine between Christians, Buddhist, Jews and Hindus but it is not fine with Muslims. The Muslims cannot bring anything to the interfaith table because their ideology/religion does not permit it.It is based on submission and on hate for the unbelievers. Christians have not totally given up on their faith but it is becoming harder and harder for them in a world that attacks them from all sides. As a Catholic a I do not believe in the pope anymore, as a Christian I still believe that they are people out there who care. But as in the comments above what can we do except praying for the persecution of our brothers and sisters in Christ. Islam is a scourge some of us know that.Communism is another scourge. It is a bad time for Christians of all faith and other non Muslim faiths. We must try not to get discourage and continue to fight the best we can.

gsk

Very good summary, Mr Finch. Nina Shea just set up a new persecution aggregator: persecutionreport.org. @Truebearing has a good point: those who have not really grasped the truth of the [Christian] faith they inherited are quite prone to the multi-cultural nonsense that surrounds them. But that said, those who do understand what it means to follow Christ know that persecution is a part of it. In the end, those who suffer for the Name are the martyrs of God, but those who ignore His suffering members are ignoring the fundamental demands of their faith. We must do better! http://feminine-genius.typepad.com/morning_star/

AdinaK

There are an overwhelming amount of liberal/multi-culti psychotic churches ( as well as synagogues) which have little use for their own people, but will raise the roof about "the other", just as long as that "aggrieved" group is considered third world. Moreover, by placating the Islamic beast, they truly believe they will keep it at bay. NEWSFLASH: it ain't gonna work. Besides, their red alliance, with the green banner of Islam, will upend the west - http://adinakutnicki.com/2012/10/17/when-is-the-u... Adina Kutnicki, Israel http://adinakutnicki.com/about/

truebearing

Christianity isn't a lifelong, or should I say eternal, membership. Belonging to a church may qualify you as a Methodist, in some specific way, but doesn't mean you are automatically a Christian. One becomes a Christian when acting according to Christian teachings, and ceases being a Christian when failing to act according to the Gospel. The selfishness and lack of compassion inherent in ignoring the persecution of Christians disqualifies one, in my opinion, from being able to legitimately call oneself a Christian. It's rather easy to be a Muslim. Commit virtually any act in the name of Islam and you are a good Muslim, even if, or should I say especially if, that act is to kill someone of another faith. According to the teachings of the Quran, a "good" Muslim is a violent, ruthless sociopath. A good Christian has a far more difficult path, and that path demands that evil be rejected, forgiveness practiced, and compassion ever-present. Ignoring or defending evil, while having no compassion for people being raped, tortured, and murdered seems to me to be an automatic disqualification. Where did Jesus promote callous indifference to suffering?

truebearing

Maybe the answer is something that "Christians" don't want to hear....that many Christians are really Christians in name only. In other words, they aren't Christians at all, but self-righteous, judgemental, opportunistic frauds.Their posturing is basically hedging their bet so they look good, or get to heaven. Maybe we should call them narcissistic Christians....or perhaps just narcissists. Where in the Gospels did it say that Catholicism was the true church, or that Baptists were the righteous ones? Where did Jesus endorse judgmentalism or suggest his followers indulge in deciding who will go to hell? Where did Jesus incite people to hate Jews? He obviously didn't, and all of that sectarian stupidity is as big a sin as any other.

Nancy

I don't think that Christians in the West don't care, it's more that they feel powerless. I pray for the persecuted churches, but don't know what I can do beyond that. Our own government doesn't even seem to like Christians much. They don't seem to mind some of Old time "mainstream" protestant churches, that have pretty much become apostate churches. As you wrote these are endorsing the wrong side. There are some Christian groups trying do as much as they can. Do you have some suggestions of what else we can do? If there is something I can do that would make a difference, I would be happy to it.

@BlissTabitha

It's so true & heartbreaking to see the 'body of Christ' on earth so broken. I am not a Catholic either. I'm more of what they'd classify as an evangelical..But I am married to a Catholic man whom I love dearly. (Yes, according to our government, we're both religious extremists.) ;-) The thing that's so sad about Catholics being demonized by Baptists (& I was raised in a Baptist household), is the fact that the prophecies are now understood & completely confirmed by the 'math' God clearly put in them where he foretold events to the exact year the prophecy would be fulfilled. But because it's only been officially unsealed since 1967 (& understood later), & most doctrines already had their theory firmly in place, they'll never look at the overwhelming evidence let alone report this information to the flock. (For everything on that you can check out the BeholdTheBeast website.) The other thing many Protestants fail to understand is that without the Catholic church there would be no Protestant church & likely no Christianity that survived to this time to speak of. It was due to the might of the Roman Empire the word was even able to survive & spread as far as it did. We are ALL part of the body of Christ & those of us that treat this issue with indifference will one day pay the price upon our final judgement. We as Christians must love all things God loves including Israel & the Jewish people & one another. Otherwise we're setting ourselves at odds with the creator.
