As to 20 years in Wright's church, above, he didn't just sit there -- the Obama's kept rehiring him as minister! Wright's church is UCC -- United Church of Christ, which hires its ministers in an annual church meeting in which every church member (and that includes 16-year-old teenagers) can attend and vote. Ministers (like town managers and school superintendents) are often given multi-year contracts but those contracts have to be approved by an actual vote of the church members at the annual meeting -- as does the rest of the church budget. Furthermore, ministers can be (and sometimes are) fired for misconduct. Just like with a Town Meeting, a certain number of church members (I forget how many) can call for a special church meeting and there is one -- and subject to whatever his contract says, if a majority of the church members attending vote to fire him, the minister is fired. This isn't like a lot of other religious orders, the members themselves hire and fire the minister. What happens in reality is similar to what happened to Richard Nixon -- when those seeking to fire the minister have lined up enough members willing to attend the meeting and vote to do this, they go to the minister and offer him the opportunity to resign instead which he usually does. When I was an 18-year-old college freshman, I promised that I would come back and help vote the minister out if my vote was needed, and I am very glad that I didn't have to, but that's how it works. And if the Obama's weren't happy with Rev Wright, not only could they have left the church, but if they were church members, which they had to be in order to have their daughters baptized there, then they had the opportunity to go to the annual church meetings and either raise questions about his conduct or even vote not to rehire him. Hence, I argue, Obama kept rehiring Wright....

At 88, Ed may be getting a bit dotty. Still, whatever he said in endorsing Obama and why he said and what his tortured explanation is now, which other prominent Democratic politicians, active or retired, Jew or Gentile are jumping out there to slam Obama on the Hagel nomination over the issues of Israel or Iran? This is actually pretty typical Koch at every age. In his mind, he's just being pragmatic -- eg, there was no value to failing to support Obama's reelection as long as he had not stabbed Israel in the back. Two months ago, there were two or three major names circulating for SecDef other than Hagel.

Key point. The Jews are very solicitous of everybody's needs but their own. Very true. Jews marched and even died for blacks during the Civil Rights struggle. We were rewarded with what? Outright antipathy for Israel, bordering on anti-semitism. Jews are also more concerned about offending Muslims than they are about defending Israel. I am beginning to feel far more comfortable among my gentile friends, who to a man, admires and appreciates the modern state of Israel. My Jewish acquaintances, take their cue from the likes of Tom Friedman, that momser, and anybody else who writes in the New York Times, which has become their bible.

Let's face it; Ed Koch turns out to be the biggest schmuck on the planet Earth. I thought he might have learned something from Obama's first term but like all the other liberal Jewish lemmings he just keeps on going over the cliff for a President whose personal animosity towards the State of Israel has been documented time and time again. Now we have Hagel and his Jewish conspiracies right out of Walt and Meirsheimer. Oh, I knew he was going to stab Israel in the back. I just didn't think it would be this soon. What? If anyone pays any further attention to Koch they are as stupid as he is. Please, let's just ignore his shape shifting nonsense and mark him for what he is. A complete and absolute schmuck.

Koch should be (and no doubt is) ashamed. But nobody should have fallen for it. Obama's true nature as an isolationist appeaser has been clear from the start. Like all isolationists, he believes that the way to stay out of trouble is not to have allies count on you. And like all appeasers, he believes enemies can be appeased by "engaging" them while disengaging from allies. This is looking like a replay of the Republican-led (and Democratic-followed) isolationism of the post-WWI years. Back then, the US decided France and Britain were the threat to European peace, and Germany was the power whose grievances needed to be appeased. So, here we go again.

Under Robert's Rules, one must be in the prevailing side of a vote in order to move to reconsider the vote at the next meeting. Hence if you know that your side is going to loose the vote anyway and hence your voting "against yourself" isn't going to make a difference, it is often wise to do so in order to be able to be able to make the motion to reconsider at the future date. Ed Koch is 88 years old, and two years ago, Debbie Schlussel stated the opinion that he was *then* in "the early stages of dementia." See: http://www.debbieschlussel.com/36892/ed-koch-has-... So there may be some issues there -- along with the desire to return to the limelight in at least a little sense. I see and respect Ms. Goodman's point -- but then there is the Faustian choice of if Obama was going to win anyway, would it better to be in a position to do what he is doing now, and speaking out in a way that he might not have been able to had he not campaigned for Obama? Notwithstanding all the above, will Koch have traction with Jewish voters? Will he put the scare into the Pro Israel Democrats?
