Mr Rothschild, with all due respect for your interest in your Jewish relatives and your research into history - may I gently suggest that you befriend some Jews who follow their faith. I also suggest you attend some synagogue services and meet with a few rabbis. You are spouting history and focusing on divisions. What is Jewish is not found there. There is the spiritual - the Torah, there is am amazing sense of tradition and peoplehood frequently against great adversity . There is music , the foods, the smiling faces of children..... You seem to be completely missing the beauty and the humanity.

I am not Jewish; I'm a Catholic Jew, so I frankly do not know how to respond to the article. When, they say she is not a traditional Jew, is it that she is not a pre-exile Jew?..I don't think so, so they both appear to be traditional Jews, inexperienced in American politics. Does Judaism have ecumenical rabbis? Are they political? Are they critical of the pre-exile form of Judaism? Post exiles Jews, it would seem could identify with the Democrats, at least the MLK black voter type of Democrat.. and in light of the fact that Judaism does not have a clue, nor does it want to what pacifism is, it is highly likely a traditional Jew, but perhaps has some ritualistic customs, during services, that would appeal to American Jews.

Rabbi Soloveichik is the real thing. Rabbi Gottlieb is the typical leftist Jew who believes that the Torah has been replaced by the Democratic party's political platform. Any conflict between the Torah and the Democratic party is resolved in favor of the political party, not G-d. Christians support Israel for a numerous reasons. It is simplistic, and judgmental, to believe that they only do so for "apocalyptic" reasons. It requires little original thought to buy into the knee-jerk reactions that liberal Jews have against the sister religion of Christianity. Only when liberal Jews are more fearful of Iran than Pat Robertson will we ever know they have opened their eyes.

To me, the American Jews position on the Democrap Party was given to me by a lady neighbor in her 90's but with a mind as sharp as a scalpel. I asked her then who was she going to vote for in the coming presidential election and she answered me OBAMA OF COURSE...! ! ! I asked her what did she know about the man and she answered me she didn't have to know anything about him, as long as he was her political party's choice... I asked her then what is her party's presidential choice would have been a jackass and she answered me she would still vote for the jackass..... Needless to say, I rested my case... And this is the same criteria which, according to polls, will make 60% of them to still reelect him... Now,what is it with American Jews and the Democrap Party, which makes Republican Jews as scarce as hen's teeth...?????? Would it be that, like German Jews before them, were first Germans and then perhaps...Jews ???? A majority of Jewish voters are either unconcerned with the increasingly low moral image of the Party’s politicians and candidates and party hacks (John Edwards, David Axelrod, Rahm Emanuel, Elliot Spitzer, Anthony Wiener, Richard Blumenthal). Collectively these six, five of whom are Jews, represent the worst in American politics. The defection of the man so many Jews were formerly so proud of, Senator Joe Lieberman (when he was nominated as the Vice-Presidential candidate of the party), has apparently not bothered them or caused them to rethink. Both Lieberman and former Democratic governor/senator of Georgia, Zell Miller told the party faithful in 2008 the same message when they supported George Bush and John McCain - the Democratic Party is a national party no longer! For many Jews, still in a time warp of the 1930s, the message is only slowly beginning to penetrate.

I love watching Liberal Jews tie themselves in knots trying reconcile the left's open Jew hatred with their own continued existance. The problem with Jewish liberals is that their politics are stuck in the 1940′s and 50′s. The enemies of Jews are no longer the devout Christians and the guys in pickup trucks with guns and confederate flags. The antisemites are coming from the very people Jewish liberals identify and associate with. Mr. Shapiro asks which rabbi sounds more authentically Jewish. In reality, Rabbi Soloveichik sounds like like an authentically Jewish rabbi from the 1800s and Rabbi Gottlieb sounds like an authentically Jewish rabbi from the 1900s. Mr. Shapiro, who has not been in the modern era very long, appears to be yearning, as Muslim Fundamentalists do, for a much older time. He also asks "What exactly is she talking about? Nobody really knows, since nobody has expressed that [apocalyptic zionist] opinion." Incorrect. It is espoused by Pat Robertson and held by Evangelicals at large.
