Might use them for external paved areas as a quick workaround. View controls, scheduling ... better if floors are floors. Also we normally don't go to the trouble of creating pads if the toposurface lies within the thickness of the floor structure, which in our case it often does. In cases where we do have a pad under the floor then I pretty much endorse the previous two comments. We've been using pads for a long time "under" the floor slab. We create them as 6" gravel that then appears in all of our sections etc and only have to edit the ends @ footings to make all sections correct. it is pretty easy to take you floor slab into sketch mode, copy sketch lines and then create new pad as a paste in its sketch mode....goodluck! I use pads modelled as a site prep layer, one that would typically occupy the space immediately beneath a slab (hardcore, sand blinding, insulation, air, etc) - then model the slab as a slab. I host both on their respective levels (no instance offsets relating to one level as I much prefer to use a "LEVELS" working section view for dimension-control/locks) - then there's no graphical overlap (or physical clash) and you retain the (individual) control of build ups and sketched-footprints.
