Our "foreign policy experts" (that's a joke) have never ever understood the tribal nature of the ME.....they just can't ! So, IMHO we should be mining the incredible mineral resources that are found in Afghanistan; protect the assets with our military and then GTFO!

If you think the Pakistanis will sit by while Indians go across their territory, territory that is controlled by radical jihadists no less, then you really are dreaming. As for all these other countries like China and Iran trying to gain influence in Afghanistan, let them try it. We've been there for 10 years and have not made a dent in that corrupt, barbaric, society. Let them have it. If they think they can tame the Afghans, they are as stupid as we are. Nobody has successfully occupied Afghanistan for any great length of time without, in the end, simply leaving and coming to the conclusion that it just isn't worth the effort. So let them try. I still say we should just keep one or two bases in Northern Afghanistan with the tribes that like us, just to keep an eye on al Qaeda and the Taliban. But, other than that, the Afghans can go back to what the do best, which is slaughter each other and trying to keep their country in the 15th century.

There are several things the United States can and should do... There is one thing the US cannot and should not do...spend more money THAT WE DON'T HAVE on this wasteland. When we get done training them, rebuilding them, and educating them, we will have a better trained, better educated, and stronger enemy. Let the power vacuum destabilize the region for awhile. Just my humble opinion.

Iraq has problems with its parliament due to tribal disagreements and fighting between the Shiite and Sunni. Afghanistan is worse. Typical situtation for DC - SNAFU.
