It's just a little disconcerting to me to see airliner wings flex that much, but I'm just a regular guy, not an aeronautical or materials engineer.

I know airliner wings are supposed to flex a certain amount but those seem to flex so that the tips are higher than the fuselage.
I'm willing to trust the engineers on this one but the look floppy to me.

Yes it seems strange to leave at 12:30 am on a Sunday to go camping in freezing weather but perhaps he's done this before. is it stupid? yes irresponsible? yes because he ended up missing work and his kids could have froze. last time I checked this is still a free country and you can go camping at 12:30 am on a Sunday if you want to. His friends and family have come out and said that this was a thing that he did. He probably knows it sounds weird and coupled with the fact that his wife is gone and people are thinking he did it, when he gets interviewed his brain goes haywire. the same thing would probably happen to me.
I'm not saying he's not guilty and his current status as "person of interest" is warranted, but let more facts get uncovered before you hang your hat on the fact that you think its strange to go camping at 12:30 am on a sunday

What's happening is not that the defendant is saying that they are innocent but rather "not guilty" of the charges as presented to the court by the prosecutor, even if he would admit that he did kill the officer.
This then forces the prosecutor to present the case that the defendant is in fact guilty and here's why beyond a shadow of a doubt.
The defendant says "not guilty" so their lawyers can at least present a number of points to provide that shadow of a doubt.
