The EMS Levy was not an increase but a continuation of the one currently in place. I don't understand how I-1183 is going to pay for fire and police...this is done with property taxes.

The engine that broke down en-route to the fire last summer was made in 2005...sounds like sensationalism to me :(

Congratulations Chief Hines on your move back to California! We can only hope that our elected officials and chiefs will make decisions that will be the best for our community rather than their personal aspirations or union affiliations. Currently we are in desperate need of a overhaul across the valley, hopefully this will open a few eyes into the situation.

Thanks KIMA for reporting the truth that volunteer firefighters are undoubtedly the backbone of Fire and EMS services in Yakima Valley. These dedicated volunteers are highly trained, skilled, and equipped to protect the community in the event of emergencies. Departments across the Yakima Valley are recruiting new volunteers to feel the ranks and ensure that our community is adequately protected. If you would ever like to do additional in-depth stories detailing recruitment efforts of volunteer firefighters or the dedication of our current volunteers, please feel free to contact your local fire department. Thanks!
