I was in high school when this film came out, and I enjoyed it then, and I'd probably enjoy it now if I bothered to watch it. (And apparently I can on netflix instant, so who knows, maybe a midnight movie?)
Thanks for the reminder that it exists. It's certainly better than anything on network television lately. (Though admittedly, there are better films on netflix instant that I could be watching instead.)
Good! I think I would have attempted to burn the film if it came anywhere near me. What a horrible concept. Akira is a great film, and I'd like it to stay that way. Remakes often taint the originals so much that people don't even realize there was something before it. Mention Solyaris to someone, and they start thinking of Soderbergh. Sheesh.
Not sure what I think about this one - it would be fun perhaps, but seriously, what kind of storyline would it have? And really, I'm tired of seeing character actors like Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell doing this stuff (or God forbid, Eddie Murphey), but I love the idea of John Malkovich or Ben Kingsley. I would like to see somone make it fun, but not stupid. (Not that the original was exactly smart but... I think my point is obvious.)
