That view is utterly absurd. That is what I was referring to.

I don't think the draft should exist at all. I don't think anyone should be drafted, ever. I think it is reprehensible to require your citizens to be put into a lottery where they will then be told to kill other people against their will.

I also don't think you know anything about what it is to be a woman, particularly a woman of color, in this country at this time, for you to argue that our rights USED to be trampled upon and that we are now equal. But if your basis for that is what is on the law books then it is useless to even try and discuss it with you because my basis for understanding equality is actual practice, not what it is on some law book that people don't even follow.

The argument you and the OP are making is just ignorant of the actual lived experience of women in this society, period. And I don't really feel the need to argue with you about it, there is SO MUCH work out there you could read if you cared to.

I've decided to leave the trolling comments on here because I find it fascinating how this post in particular attracts them. It's like a sociological study or something. The only ones I delete are the ones that advocate violence against myself or anyone else, because honestly I just don't need that in my space.

I don't understand how you can even advocate that when you (as a gay man) have had your own rights trampled on with that very same excuse. With regards to your last few sentences at the end, it is interesting, I think, that when TNG was at its height The X-Files came out, with its plots of exactly what you're talking about: men in the smoky backrooms making our decisions for us and then holding out limited choices so we still think we're free. I don't know precisely how true that image is, but I know there is at least some truth in it. I only hope that there is also some truth to the Star Trek ideal that if we band together we really can eliminate poverty, racism, sexism, etc etc. (even if they didn't actually manage to do that in the shows! lol).
