Never implied that Dan should have won, only that of the two finalists, he won that individual challenge...I wouldn't watch Dan's show either. I agree with many here that Dan is status quo. My vote was for Lonni. A true design professional with a great portfolio, real rooms with wonderful ideas, not just an education and credentials. Hopefully she will benefit from this debacle in some way. Working in the industry, I realize that HGTV just attempts to entertain the newbies, not educate. Hardly any professional expertise offered like in previous years. When the network first aired, I was glued to TV, but now, not so much!

Agree 100%. Antonio was out of his league, and consistently projected the chip on his shoulders, ‘in-your-face’ attempt to deflect attention from his lack of design knowledge. You are correct, the judges are the offenders here.

I am not knocking Antonio personally. HGTV titled the show 'Design Star' and that was what I expected. It's obvious that many respondents here feel the same way. Because I know how the best-laid plans can go astray in remodeling and construction in general, I critiqued the contestants on concepts and details. White Room - c'mon, who decorates with grocery store items? It's entertaining, but I totally discount this challenge as practical application goes, judges are looking for creative concepts here. It's a crap shoot as to what will "work" under those circumstances, and the judges pointed that out when they chose to keep Lonni after this challenge.

You misunderstand. And you must not be familiar with construction other than what you see on TV. My observations are based on the fact that I am a 23-year veteran in Home Building and Kitchen and Bath industry. I just completed a $35K renovation of my own home. I have many trade partners and friends that are carpenters, electricians, plumbers, painters, you get the picture... None of them call themselves designers. I have excellent relationships with many design professionals as well; none of them would put their name on the projects that Antonio called 'designs'.

Well said!

I am not related to Dan, not a fan of his, don't read his blog, visit his FB page, seek him out on YouTube, etc... But Dan was the clear winner of the final challenge. And before Sunday night, I also had never blogged on any forum. But I was so shocked at the outcome, that I went immediately to the website out of curiosity that I had strangely missed something.

I made the decision to voice my disappointment as a 23+ year home building and Kitchen & Bath industry professional. I was not a Dan fan, do not care to see his YouTube pleas. My posts were polite and were taken down with many others. I urged all to speak out and have their opinions known as viewers, to contact HGTV and sponsors. Viewer = ratings. Much science goes into finding marketable shows that attract ratings. Before the blog was taken down, the vast majority of comments expressed disbelief that Antonio won on negligible skills that had nothing to do with design talent.

College should have taught you how to use homophones and contractions: "No THEY'RE not" Is what I think you must have meant. The vast majority of comments were not in support of Antonio. A blanket statement about statisical occurances is moot... If you didn't read them, I was one of many who posted comments and by Monday AM they were taken down. I was not rude, or impolite with my responses, just expressing disbelief as were most that Antonio won. I was not a fan of Dan's and stated that as well.

Most posts here clearly indicate that viewers did not expect Antonio to win. He is not a designer by profession, and the show wasn't seeking the next best carpenter. Designers hire carpenters after they come up with design concepts. If you want design advice, you seek out a professional, not a guy experimenting with his hobby... Set designs may be Antonio's area of expertise, but they aren't permanent living spaces. In these discouraging times we want interior design inspiration that is better than loud paint colors and using stuff that we could pick up at a yard sale. And if you need to sell your home, Antonio's "bad-boy" design is the kiss of death! Check out Lonni's credentials as a professional designer : http://www.lonnipauldesign.com/home.html . She's the real deal and I would make it a point to never miss her show. But the judges sadly did not look for design talent, but rather shock value. Viewers need to make good on their promises not to watch Antonio if that is how they feel. Let the ratings proof this out for the HGTV execs!!
