Oh, I completely agree that he is showing cowardice! This is a perfect time for him to show leadership and to take a position against actual disenfranchisement. Maybe even put those "community organizer" skills to use and send a message to the Iranian voters so they know that they have the support of lovers of liberty around the world. His allegiance, however, lies with government in general, not with liberty.
"Safe", the way I used it was in relation to him wanting to be able to be the first to engage the Iranian regime in some sort of negotiations and talk the holocaust-denier out of his goal of wiping Israel off the map. In the real world, however, I don't see anything "safe" about cozying up to Ahmadinejad and the mullahs.
His response to the protests in Iran shows our president's true beliefs, in my opinion. He has invested in nurturing a relationship with the existing regime in Iran and if he would get the same rebuke from them that America has always gotten, he wouldn't have accomplished any more than any other president. In the meantime, he is trying to take the safe route and side with the group that he believes will ultimately prevail. He's an opportunist who wants to be on the winning side. Is it any surprise to those of us that have been paying attention that Obama believes in the power of the government to prevail in spite of its own people?
At around 36 seconds into the 40 second clip: "...just as Americans like the health care system that they have".
The next question should have been "If American's like their health care system, why are you meddling with it?"
