Rise of the Center : John Stewart, David Brooks and Jonathon Chait: Voices of Reason on the Arizona Shooting

Yeah... it cheapens the attacks on her, and gives her more cred to those on her side, to be attacked for such stupid reasons that are clearly not her fault. There are pleeeeenty of things she deserves to be attacked for... generally it would be better if people just paid less attention to her. I try not to post anything here that is specifically about her, but its tough not to use her as an example when talking about extremism on the right sometimes.

Rise of the Center : Why the Filibuster is Good For America

I'd also change your name away from this coach name with a weird string of numbers behind it, replace it with your blog's name, or your personal name, and replace the odd baby face with something people will take seriously. Personal branding is very important if you want people to think you're not just another crackpot with delusions of political grandeur.

Rise of the Center : Why the Filibuster is Good For America

By your logic every bit of checks and balances that are aimed at making it so majority rule doesn't run roughshod over minorities, of which there are several layers in our government, are all oligarchical. You can disagree with the filibuster, but saying that checks and balance style ideas are oligarchical doesn't make any sense at all. I like the idea of making it so people have to come up with more than just a simple majority to pass major legislation, not because of any of this hogwash you speak of, but because until we actually have a system where the center is represented at all in the House and Senate, there is no check to one party going crazy with power, as the GOP did under Dubya, and the Dems have done until now under Obama. The filibuster forces them to at least have to get a few votes from the other side. And stop linking to your website in every comment. This site is for discussion, not for trumpeting your own site. You keep getting caught up in my spam filter, and if you keep doing so I'll just let them stay there. I'm fine with you having a basic signature at the bottom, I put an unlinked "Solomon Kleinsmith, Rise of the Center" at the end of a lot of my posts on other sites for example. And some tips for you... It just makes you look silly to call your site a political party. A political manifesto of one person does not a party make. And if you want to be taken seriously, I'd suggest you purchase a theme for your wordpress blog that is something other than the default theme that comes with it. Having a blog on the site would help too. You wont get much traffic if your content is static. Daily content on current events will help you start to build a readership. Your site is a blog, not a party. Unless you're going out there and actually forming a party, calling it such will only make you look like the dozens of very similar sites out there with crackpots that think they can throw up a website with their idea of what a third party should look like and it will happen without the insane amount of work that REAL parties (like the IPNY, IP in Oregon, Moderate Party of Rhose Island, etc) are putting into building a foundation for an opposition to the two major parties.

If you're going to make a strange statement that the filibuster helps preserve our oligarchy, you should probably follow that with an actual supporting argument. I've never heard anyone say that... and I dont' think it makes any sense. I can see how you might be against the filibuster, but I don't see any connnection between it and the stranglehold the special interests have on our country.

Rise of the Center : Moderate America: No Labels or No Sense?

I love that there are people out there that start up centrist third party ideas, and invent their own ideologies, but its not the ideology of the center, or the party of the center, until/if the center actually adopts them. A website does not a political party make. Recruit members on the ground, raise money, run candidates, win elections and pass legislation... that is what a party does. Thats the difference between the dozens of sites like yours and the Independence Party of Oregon, or Moderate Party of Rhode Island. They're not winning much, but they're building real parties on the ground. I'd suggest you do the same wherever you live, and I'll report on it.

Rise of the Center : Is Ending Birthright Citizenship Really an Extreme Idea?

I don't think the point of the quoted piece was that other countries not doing it meant that it was okay for us to, but that its not as extreme of an idea as some people are making it out to be. I'm generally for the idea of tossing birthright citizenship, but I'm also for making a pathway to citizenship WHEN THE ECONOMY NEEDS MORE WORKERS easier, controlling the borders and also getting rid of the rules where immigrants who become citizens can then bring their families in (not counting spouses and children).

Rise of the Center : Liberal Hypocrisy over Gas Prices Under Obama

Actually I think many on the left think Obama is capable, they're just pissed he's not liberal enough for them, and many of them do genuinely believe that the republican party is all that is wrong in the universe. The same thing could be said about the right wing and Obama right now. I think they may have learned their lesson on Bush, and will probably try to pin stuff on Boehner and company. Doubt it'll work... most people don't believe what either side is saying anymore.

If you're okay with whole industries falling apart because of that, then thats a position you can take on principle. I'm not. I think they should get to the back of the line, be temporary workers for the time being and if they are gainfully employed and don't break the law, pay fines, learn english, etc, then they can earn citizenship over a number of years, AFTER those who are going through the system the correct way get through.

We can should all over ourselves trying to come up with utopian ideas, but requiring 10+ million people to leave, wait years and then maybe come back would literally gut entire industries. Its not only impossible to enforce, but would send out economy into a tailspin, even if we weren't still in a tenuous recovery.
