Which "AUTHORITY" do they wish us to respect exactly? The "AUTHORITY" to speak on spiritual matters? Or the "AUTHORITY" to commit assault? Is this a new commandment? 11th commandment. Assault thy neighbor. Then the 12th. Redistribute thy goods. Speaking of which, why doesn't Jim Wallis see that coveting thy neighbors goods is an assault on the gospel, not the essence of it?

You have the choice of living in Europe if you choose. I say, if you like the European model, stay there. I prefer the US, having lived in Europe for a couple years. I also prefer the States to determine their laws and not the Federal Government because according to the 10th Amendment, they have no jurisdiction over this issue.

With all due respect to your mother ian, My mom is in the same situation, BUT, it's Social Security which did her in. When Dad died, the Social Security gods yanked away half her income. Now she's out working to make ends meet. Another utopian share the wealth redistribution scheme fails to pan out. Each new generation gets sucked progressively further into the government bailout vortex, this is not a new political trick. The only thing new is the suckers from the new generation who actually fall for it EVERY TIME. PT BARNUM said it best. There's a sucker born every minute.

I don't think anything is a done deal. This is still a representative government and we the people must do what's right even if we are not optimistic about the outcome. Even if the wrong side has the votes, our conduct must be exemplary, and we can do that by protesting to our "leaders", who happen to have made and are making wrong choices. If they make the wrong choice they should hear about it loud clear so they are left without excuse.
